Last week, we brought back the magic of Math Night! Created and led by our amazing G.I.S. families, Math Night was an evening filled with games, music, pizza, and plenty of opportunities to discover just how much fun math can be!
We were excited to welcome iCode, STEAMOJI, Bach to Rock, and Mathnasium, who joined us with engaging activities that had our students thinking, creating, playing, and—most importantly—having fun with math.
A huge thank you to all the families and organizations who made the evening possible and helped us spark a love for math through curiosity, play, and connection!

Yesterday, we came together for a beautiful celebration of Peace Day! Our Roots & Shoots students gathered to honor Jane Goodall’s legacy and celebrate International Day of Peace. They created a beautiful dove to represent the spirit of the day and everything we can do to help create a more peaceful world.

We were honored to welcome Dana Lyons, a close friend of Jane Goodall, who shared stories about their friendship and performed some of his songs for our students. 🎶

We also heard from Pasado’s Safe Haven about their work protecting animals and from Whale Scouts, an organization our Roots & Shoots students have supported through local restoration projects. 🐋🌱

It was an afternoon filled with music, animals, conservation, peace, and community—and a beautiful reminder of Jane Goodall’s inspiring message that every one of us can make a difference. 💚

Our teachers’ expertise extends far beyond the G.I.S. classroom.
We’re proud to share the work of Juan Miguel Lavista, one of our Computer Science teachers and a Chief Data Scientist at Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, who is contributing his expertise to an important initiative with the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

In partnership with Microsoft and the Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice, the initiative is bringing new technology, cloud computing, case-management systems, and AI tools to Malawi’s Gender Based Violence and Child Crimes Unit—helping prosecutors work more effectively on cases involving violence against women and children.

At G.I.S., our students learn Computer Science from professionals who are not only experts in technology, but who are using it to solve real-world problems and create meaningful impact.

We’re proud to have Juan Miguel bringing this experience, perspective, and passion for using technology for good into our classrooms.

This year, we’re welcoming three professionals with impressive backgrounds in technology, product development, animation, and AI—bringing real-world experience into the classroom and inspiring our students to see what’s possible with technology.

✨ Estefania is a Principal Product Manager at Adobe, where she leads product strategy for Adobe Express and Acrobat Express and helps drive AI transformation across the product organization.

✨ Pavel brings more than 15 years of experience in the software industry, with roles at Google, Airbnb, and Grammarly. Today, as an entrepreneur, he focuses on building delightful consumer products.

✨ Leo holds a degree in Computer Animation and has spent his career finding creative ways to bring the 3D world to life. His experience includes working with Microsoft, Amazon, and Tesla, as well as contributing to iconic games like Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon.

At G.I.S., they’re not just teaching students how to use computers. They’re inspiring them to build, experiment, think creatively, solve problems, and turn their own ideas into things that actually work.

We’re excited to have them as part of the G.I.S. community!

Questions first. Answers later. 🌳

Today we kicked off our yearly STEAMS project! We’re learning about two different types of trees: evergreen and deciduous.
Students chose their favorite tree in our outdoor play area and carefully drew, colored, and labeled it. Then, they formed their own hypothesis: Is my tree evergreen or deciduous?
But we’re not looking for the answer just yet. We’ll return to our trees throughout each season of the year, observing how they change and revisiting our hypotheses along the way.

Like trees, curiosity deserves room to grow. It has its own rhythm, and sometimes the best learning begins with a question.

And we’re back! We shared stories from our summer break, welcomed new friends, and got to know each other a little better. We jumped right into learning, explored new topics, read books, went on a scavenger hunt, and enjoyed plenty of outdoor play!
The day was filled with smiles, hugs, laughter, and new stories—the perfect way to start a new school year!
