Bilingual Spanish-English elementary school with a global outlook and a local impact.

Thanks to our partnership with the former Spanish Consulate, two G.I.S Spanish teachers were awarded scholarships to participate in an international professional development program alongside educators from around the world. Malena attended Academia Mester in Salamanca, while Wendy studied at Academia Mester in León, where they gained new strategies and best practices for teaching Spanish as a second language. We are proud to support our teachers’ continued growth and know that the knowledge they bring back will enrich the learning experience of our students.

Malena and Wendy joined Spanish educators from around the world to explore innovative strategies for teaching Spanish as a second language. Throughout the week, they learned new approaches to developing language skills, differentiating instruction, incorporating literature and authentic materials into the classroom, and supporting learners with diverse needs.

Beyond the classroom, they immersed themselves in Spain’s rich culture and history through guided tours of historic landmarks, museums, universities, cathedrals, and local traditions. This unique combination of professional learning and cultural immersion provided fresh ideas, valuable teaching strategies, and a deeper appreciation for the Spanish language and culture.
We are so proud of their commitment to lifelong learning and excited for the new perspectives and experiences they will bring back to our G.I.S. community!

Before the school year came to an end, we held our annual Roots & Shoots Fun Fair! 🌏

Thanks to the incredible support of our school community, we raised funds that will be donated to several organizations selected by our Roots & Shoots students. A portion of the proceeds will also help strengthen our school’s recycling efforts and waste-reduction initiatives next year.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this meaningful event.

What a wonderful All-School Play! Congratulations to all of our students for their incredible performances. Your talent, enthusiasm, and hard work truly shined on stage!

Each year, Mrs. Kaz and Mrs. Mary bring our school community together through a special production that features singing, dancing, and dialogue in both English and Spanish. This year’s performance was a beautiful celebration of creativity, collaboration, and learning.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing audience for your smiles, applause, and encouragement throughout the show, and to all of the teachers and staff who helped bring this production to life behind the scenes. We are so proud of everyone involved!

We were so excited to welcome 8th grade students from The Overlake School as volunteers on campus! Our students loved learning, creating, and spending time with their new mentors and friends.

Overlake students taught 5th graders about kinetic and potential energy while helping them create successful marble runs through testing and redesigning. They also worked with kindergarten students during interactive math centers and a thrilling Mentos & soda rocket STEAMS experiment

In addition, they led and participated in clubs including capture the flag, Rubik’s cubes, chess, rock painting, soccer, and bracelet making. They shared lunch with GIS students, joined recess games, and even helped with classroom projects throughout the week. Their energy, creativity, and kindness made a positive impact in every activity!

Thank you, Overlake students, for the positive impact you made on our community!

For the past two months, our 3rd and 4th graders have been exploring the wonders of space through their STEAMS Astronomy planet research projects.
Each student selected one of the eight planets or a dwarf planet, conducted research using books and online sources, and created a PowerPoint presentation to showcase their learning. After practicing, they confidently presented and taught their classmates all about their chosen planet.
They did an incredible job!
