Some months back I started a 101 things I wish everyone knew about their horses. This is installment #2. Get a permanent marker in your favorite color and write these on your refrigerator door.

If the horse means something to me,
I need to mean something to the horse.
According to him, not me.

Ill feeling produces poor movement,
Poor movement produces an Ill feeling.
He cannot separate the two,--- they work together,--- always.

The horse lives what he learns, and he learns what he lives.
Everything to him is a learning experience.
He never forgets.

If you do not care to mark up your refrigerator door, your bathroom mirror will do just fine. 😊

Blessings and Happy Trails,
❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hooves of the Horses 05/04/2024

An Australian poet William Henry Ogilvie wrote a poem, The Hooves of the Horses, that Wylie Gustafson has put to music.
I'm thinking appropriate on Derby Day. Or any day for that matter.
Enjoy.

If we can get a horse to turn loose, i.e. get him to let go of trouble, we can teach him anything with relative ease.
The opposite is also true. If he is in a troubled state, teaching him anything can be trying at best to a full blown war at its worst.
What an amazing parallel between a person and the living God. The one whose mind is stayed on Christ Jesus will abide in peace and rest. It is from such a place that wisdom and understanding flows. Very rarely will it happen amidst turmoil and conflicting thoughts.
It is an incredible feeling when a horse truly turns loose to us and we get his feet in our hands, that he has willingly given.

Causes me to pause and wonder if that is not the same feeling the Holy Spirit has when we willingly get in-synch with Him.
Several photos of our last clinic in Stanwood, WA that fairly illustrates the principle.

We can do and accomplish a lot of things with our horses.

But,
when he gets worried about something,
maybe even troubled to the point of flight or fight,
can we show him a way to let go and be ok with us.

Or,
is he our babysitter?

There is a gentleman in Jardine, Montana, Warren Johnson. He is the owner operator of Hells a Roaring outfitters. Warren has possibly had his hands on more horses and mules than any man in the country.
Every year on Memorial Day weekend Warren has a horse drive to bring his remuda from their wintering grounds in the valley country back to the ranch in Jardine. It is an event that hosts horsemen and women locally and various points of the compass in America and other countries as well to help with the drive.
At the conclusion of the drive he has an auction to raise funds to provide track chairs for disabled Veterans and other first responders. The items for auction are all donated by people large in spirit and soul doing their part to make life better for others.
This is something that I feel many of you could be thinking how you might help such a beautiful endeavor. Those of you who have the gifting and abilities to build, craft or create to donate to the auction and those who would participate as buyers.
I am going to try and post some pictures on the building of a saddle that will be my part to support Warren and those his heart is into helping have a better life.
You can connect with Warren on Facebook.
