Way to go Timberline!!!🖤🤍💚

Nearly 20 teams with LWSD students qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship this year. By the time the event was over in Dallas, Texas April 25 – May 4, many of the teams had performed incredibly well. That includes one team from Timberline Middle School that finished second in the world out of 787 teams. Many of the other teams placed high in their divisions, won different types of awards and got to showcase their talents in front of large crowds. Story: bit.ly/LWSDVex2023

On Wednesday May 31st we will be holding a robotics night at TMS. We will be talking about our program and showing off next year’s game.

Current 5th graders are invited to come and form new TMS teams. Current 8th graders are encouraged to come chat with high school VRC & First teams about joining/forming a team next year.

This is a great opportunity for your returning team to recruit new members, or if you are looking for a team it is a great time to find a team to join.

Eid al-Fitr or “Festival of Breaking the Fast” marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting from dawn to sunset. It is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. In the United States, Eid al-Fitr begins on the evening of April 20 and ends on the evening of April 21. Traditions include special prayers, visiting with family and friends, giving games and gifts to children and eating traditional meals. Muslims also donate money to a charity, so less fortunate families can enjoy the festivities as well.

Lunar New Year is January 22 and celebrated for 15+ days. Known as the Spring Festival, in China it is called "Chūnjié" (Mandarin). In Vietnam, "Tết." People decorate their homes with red décor, a color that is believed to bring good luck. The celebration then kicks off with a family reunion dinner, the most important meal of the year. Businesses hold public performances of the dragon dance and lion dance to bring in prosperity and happiness. Children and elders are typically given red envelopes filled with money. These are called "hóngbāo" (Mandarin) and lì xì (Vietnamese). 🐰
