High Desert CTE and STEM

The Delta conference, held in July at OSU for selected agriculture teachers, was an intense and impactful four day experience. The focus was on engaging teaching strategies, effective lesson design, and facilitation techniques to maximize learning. Although the conference is over, the participants will continue to have monthly zoom calls to share practices, receive feedback, and learn new strategies. As with many of the conferences that Ag teachers are blessed to attend, the camaraderie and connections built with one another topped off the whole experience.

During the Design Educators Summit at Lane Community College last month, teachers were able to reignite their passion for teaching and design. They explored typographical history and reviewed Gestalt principles, as well as many other concepts. They used this knowledge to work on personal logo designs that put design theory into practice. From this training, they will bring new teaching strategies and skills into the classroom this fall.

Local students participated in the "Ready to Respond" event last month. This event helped students learn what to do in a disaster event. Construction students from Deschutes River High School, Redmond High School Construction Technology, and Caldera High School worked on the construction side of the event, building structures that were delivered to fire victims. Health science students from Madras High School worked on the medical side, learning how to assist victims of disaster. Thank you to the teachers from these schools who spent time in their summer giving the students this great opportunity!
