After school care at Cascadia is included at no extra cost, every day until 6 PM. Think relaxed structured and unstructured playtime, homework support, arts and crafts, and staff-led activities that keep kids engaged.

We also offer rotating enrichment classes throughout the year, covering subjects like karate, chess, clay, and cooking.

Curious about second grade at Cascadia? 🌟

The second grade year is about growing in confidence and independence, tackling concepts that require focus, multiple steps, and creative thinking. It is about the discovery that knowledge is shared, not just handed down by the teacher.

Students deepen their understanding of story and character, learning to read between the lines through prediction and inference. That same thinking carries onto the page, as they craft narratives with real conflict and resolution and springboard into research writing. It shows up in math too, where they take on long multiplication and division, area and perimeter, and multi-step word problems.

In the afternoons, first and second graders join for ten-week units in science and social studies, like Washington state, rainforests, and forces in motion, featuring group projects and field trips.

STEAM camp is all about nurturing curiosity and empowering kiddos to find their own answers 🔬

The older kids are using the scientific method to engineer their own games, from pinball to ping pong. Youngers are exploring space, making their own meteors and figuring out the physics behind a soft alien craft landing.

Curious about first grade at Cascadia? 🌟

In the first grade year, students start taking real ownership of their learning. They work independently and manage their own morning routines, and they're learning to advocate for themselves when they need support. Throughout each school day, they are given opportunities to work in peer groups, sharing ideas and using research methods to find answers to their own questions.

By the end of the year, students are reading and confidently discussing advanced second grade chapter books. They're writing detailed multi-paragraph pieces with an intro, three body paragraphs, and a closing. And in math, they're working through long addition, long subtraction, fractions, and single-digit multiplication.

Curious about Kindergarten at Cascadia? 🌟

Throughout the year, our Kindergarteners build fluency in addition and subtraction using Montessori manipulatives, find their voice in group discussions, and grow steadily more confident articulating their ideas and putting their thoughts into writing.

By the end of the year, students are reading at an advanced first-grade level and writing focused paragraphs with correct spelling and punctuation. They're also solving 4-digit addition and subtraction problems all on their own!
