From an amazing Early Childhood Educator:
A baby in Bellevue has been diagnosed with the measles, so it's worth making sure you know the basics about this disease. For example: someone with measles can be contagious for 4 days before developing a rash, so may be out at stores, at school and so on. If they cough and sneeze, the droplets can remain infectious for up to two hours. If someone who is not vaccinated is exposed, the chance they will get measles is 90%. For the unvaccinated, 1 in 10 get ear infections, 1 in 20 pneumonia, 1 in 1000 encephalitis. Getting a vaccine reduces the chance of catching measles after an exposure to 1 - 3% and if a vaccinated person does get measles, it will be a milder case.
