"I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being." -Hafiz
Do you ever delay gratification: it has it benefits. Think of it this way. You can have comfort today but discomfort later, or discomfort today and comfort later. This applies to just about every aspect of your life. For example, you want to lose weight: do you have the brownie today (but not lose the weight later) or do you forego the brownie today and feel a sense of comfort later (bec/ you lost the weight), are you going to do the dishes now and wake up with a clean kitchen tomorrow morning or are you going to let them sit overnight but have to face the mess in the morning, are you going to study for the test in advance or wait for the night before and cram, are you going to save money today so you have it in the future or are you going to spend it all now and have very little in the future. To further support the value of delaying gratification, remember the Marshmallow Experiment that took place in the 60's. This is where children were presented with one marshmallow and were told that the instructor was going to leave the room. If the child did not eat the marshmallow while waiting for the instructor to return, they would get a second marshmallow. However, if they ate the marshmallow, they would not get a second one. What made this experiment so fascinating, was that the children were followed for 40 years after the experiment and the results revealed that the children who delayed gratification had better SAT scores, better social skills, a better response to stress, a lower likelihood of obesity, and overall better success in many other areas of life. Delaying gratification can change the way you live by resisting the immediate reward for a more valuable reward in the future.
Did you ever notice when you go to post something on Facebook it asks the question: "What's on your mind?" I don't know if you have ever given that question serious thought, but being aware of what you are thinking or not being aware, will produce things in your life that serve or don't serve you; Your 'thoughts' are always working behind the scenes to create your results. Choose your thoughts wisely...they impact every aspect of your life.
Confidence or Self-Confidence: Is there a difference. YES
Confidence is based on what you have done; past experiences. You are confident you can do something because you have already succeeded at doing it-in other words there is evidence in your life that supports your belief.
Self Confidence: This is confidence that is based on your beliefs in yourself about your future. You believe in yourself even though you have no evidence, no experience. You choose to believe today that you can accomplish something in the future, in spite of not having the skills or previous experience.
Self Confidence allows us to move forward in spite of not knowing the how.
Confidence: this is your past
Self Confidence: this is your future
Make the shift from your past to your future and see where it takes you.
