The Overlake School is a secular, coeducational, independent college prep school of 530 students in grades 5-12. Located in Redmond on a wooded 73-acre campus, The Overlake School has been educating young students from Seattle and the Eastside for more than 50 years. Based on the foundation of a liberal arts education, Overlake offers students a variety of academic courses, including honors and AP courses, as well as experiential education featuring outdoor education, service learning, and leadership opportunities. Overlake offers robust co-curriculars, including many athletic teams for both middle and upper school students, arts programs, both within the school day and after, student-run clubs, and academic teams, such as chess and robotics.

We want to share a big Hoot Hoot🦉 to everyone who came out last week for Hydro Night Dig for the Cure! We had a great crowd and an amazing match while raising money and awareness for the Hydrocephalus Association. Thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support!

Ab ovo ad mala! 'From eggs to apples'. Magistra Mansour’s Middle School Latin students experienced the tradition of a Roman cena, complete with authentic attire, homemade headpieces, lively entertainment provided by their classmates, and a feast fit for the occasion. History came alive through food, culture, and hands-on learning!

What will our students need most for the future? That was at the heart of a conversation Head of School Gretchen Warner joined this week with fellow education leaders at a panel discussion hosted by UCDS.

Although technology and AI were part of the discussion, the conversation quickly returned to something much more human: we should “love students for who they are, not who they will become.”

It’s an idea that feels especially true to Overlake. Gretchen left the evening grateful for the conversation, but also grateful for our faculty. So much of what these education leaders identified as essential for the future simply affirmed what we see happening at Overlake every day.

Have you ever tried to bake 🍪 blindfolded while having someone read you directions? It would certainly take a lot of teamwork and coordination!
That's just what our ASB leaders did as a part of their leadership retreat. Practiced working together--in a fun and hopefully delicious way!
The results may be comical, but the lessons are important. Learning to lean on your teammates and work together are important skills for student leadership and this was just one of the ways they got to practice them.

The best way to learn a language is to practice! And what better way than while enjoying delicious French pastries at Redmond's Paris Baguette. World Languages Faculty Aime Ngandu took his class on a field trip to enjoy authentic food and excellent conversation--entirely in French of course!
Students enjoyed time outside the classroom laughing and practicing their French proficiency. Bon appétit!

How do you measure a flagpole without climbing it 🤔? Katie Hill's math class tackled this math challenge today, using brainpower instead of ladders.

At Overlake, we love turning nature into a classroom, especially on a sunny afternoon. Learning math outdoors is just another way to make education exciting!

Enjoying the last bit of sunshine for the year, some of our Middle School owls enjoyed rock climbing 🧗‍♀️in Leavenworth over the weekend. Our Experiential Education department loves to facilitate opportunities for our students to spread their wings and learn new skills.

Come cheer on your Owls and help raise funds and awareness for hydrocephalus, a condition that affects more than one million people in the United States. Together, we can support an important cause and make a meaningful impact beyond the court.

Over 500 members of the Overlake community gathered over the weekend at the PGA All-School BBQ! The event was led and organized by dedicated PGA volunteers who set up, cleaned up, served snacks and treats, facilitated games, and helped families connect.

A special thank-you also goes to Overlake's Development, Kitchen, Facilities, Transportation, and Communication teams, who went above and beyond to help the event run smoothly.

We are grateful for every single member our community! Hoot Hoot🦉!
