Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to hear from Rickerby Hinds, a professor of playwriting at University of California, Riverside, founding director of Riverside Studios, and one of the pioneers of hip-hop theater.

The event will feature a reading of the play “Blackbox,” Hinds’ magical hip-hop retelling of abolitionist Henry Box Brown’s escape to freedom. The story will be told by two actors who magically appear on stage and explore moments in the life of Henry as he becomes a better magician. Henry improves to the point that he finally disappears from his life of enslavement and reappears as a free man.
