Garner Holt Education Through Imagination was featured in the California Department of Education's "CDE Today" newsletter following the Spirit of Junior Achievement Celebration Awards in Anaheim!

Recognition at the state level means a great deal, especially alongside partners helping students build a stronger foundation in entrepreneurship, career readiness, and financial literacy.

Creative learning absolutely belongs in that same future-forward work. When students are given the chance to imagine, build something real, and watch their choices take shape, they start to see where their skills can actually lead.

Another review we just had to share! 🪄

During their field trip, students got to watch our resident welder at work and speak with him about what he does, seeing what a skilled trade actually looks like up close. 🔩⚙️

Field trips with Garner Holt Education through Imagination help students meet the people behind the craft, connect what they are learning to where it could lead, and leave with a clearer sense of what they could become.

Welcome to “What’s Happening at ETI”, our new weekly look at everything going on in and around Garner Holt Education Through Imagination! There was a lot this week…

Over at Santiago Charter Middle School in Orange, students were busy building mini animatronic songbirds and programming SPARKe inside their Garner Holt AniMakerspace.

The San Bernardino County Library hosted ‘Friends of the Library’ for a conversation about why home libraries matter so much in a child’s early development, how community support helps put books in more homes, and how their donors make that possible. This event was held in Garner’s Garage, a space provided by the Garner Holt Foundation.

We also welcomed hundreds of students to Garner Holt Productions for field trips, where they got to see up close the creative and technical artistry behind every animatronic figure we build!

And in San Bernardino County, we wrapped a three day camp inside the juvenile detention center where students built and programmed their own mini theme park ride through our STEAM park activity.

That’s the week. Stay tuned for what’s next on the next edition of What’s Happening at ETI!

If you’ve ever wanted to build a real creative space for the young people in your community, you already know the hardest part is figuring out where to start.

That’s exactly what we want to help with!

On June 9, we’re hosting a free virtual open house inside the Garner Holt Teen Innovation Center, the first makerspace lab of its kind built inside a Boys & Girls Club. It’s already up and running for teens in Redlands, and we’re going to walk through how it came together, including how it was funded, and share the results we’re seeing from giving young minds access to creative technology that transforms their ideas into tangible projects.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions and connect with us in real time.

Visit the link in our bio to register and receive the live-stream details for June 9. We hope to see you there!

🎉 ✂️ The doors are OPEN!
The Garner Holt Teen Innovation Center officially opened at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Redlands-Riverside and we could not be more proud of what this moment represents for young people in this community.

The celebration is not over yet. Join us on June 9 at 2:00 PM PST for a free virtual open house where we walk through the space, share how this went from an idea to a fully funded reality, and show you what it could look like where you are. 💡 🔧

Comment 'Virtual' below and we'll send you the registration link. See you there!

ETI took the stage at the 56th Annual JCCASAC Conference in San Francisco to present Live Robotics: Education Through Imagination, a session demonstrating why students in juvenile court school settings deserve access to the same creative and engineering thinking that drives some of the most imaginative work in the world.

This is work we have been doing inside juvenile hall systems for nearly four years. What started as two weeks inside San Bernardino County has grown to 18 weeks or more, with expansion now underway into Riverside. Students in these programs may find themselves working on code, mechanics, creative design, voice acting, and programming as they build animatronic figures from start to finish.

Some students who may arrive feeling skeptical leave with something they built themselves and a sense of what they are actually capable of. Some of them, for the first time, start asking questions about the kind of work they could do someday.

Students cannot choose a career they do not know exists.

Sharing this at a conference centered on belonging felt especially meaningful, and the connections we made there sharpened our focus on reaching more facilities.

Grateful to the organizers, attendees, and partners who made space for this work in San Francisco.

We recently received this message from one of our partners, and we just had to share it. Feedback like this is the whole reason we do what we do.

Creating experiences that feel personal, intentional, and genuinely impactful. That's what our team shows up to build every single day! To hear that it landed that way, for the second year in a row, means everything.

Thank you for trusting us with your students and for taking the time to share this with us. We already can't wait for next year.
