Welcome to “What’s Happening at ETI”, our new weekly look at everything going on in and around Garner Holt Education Through Imagination! There was a lot this week…
Over at Santiago Charter Middle School in Orange, students were busy building mini animatronic songbirds and programming SPARKe inside their Garner Holt AniMakerspace.
The San Bernardino County Library hosted ‘Friends of the Library’ for a conversation about why home libraries matter so much in a child’s early development, how community support helps put books in more homes, and how their donors make that possible. This event was held in Garner’s Garage, a space provided by the Garner Holt Foundation.
We also welcomed hundreds of students to Garner Holt Productions for field trips, where they got to see up close the creative and technical artistry behind every animatronic figure we build!
And in San Bernardino County, we wrapped a three day camp inside the juvenile detention center where students built and programmed their own mini theme park ride through our STEAM park activity.
That’s the week. Stay tuned for what’s next on the next edition of What’s Happening at ETI!

ETI took the stage at the 56th Annual JCCASAC Conference in San Francisco to present Live Robotics: Education Through Imagination, a session demonstrating why students in juvenile court school settings deserve access to the same creative and engineering thinking that drives some of the most imaginative work in the world.
This is work we have been doing inside juvenile hall systems for nearly four years. What started as two weeks inside San Bernardino County has grown to 18 weeks or more, with expansion now underway into Riverside. Students in these programs may find themselves working on code, mechanics, creative design, voice acting, and programming as they build animatronic figures from start to finish.
Some students who may arrive feeling skeptical leave with something they built themselves and a sense of what they are actually capable of. Some of them, for the first time, start asking questions about the kind of work they could do someday.
Students cannot choose a career they do not know exists.
Sharing this at a conference centered on belonging felt especially meaningful, and the connections we made there sharpened our focus on reaching more facilities.
Grateful to the organizers, attendees, and partners who made space for this work in San Francisco.

We recently received this message from one of our partners, and we just had to share it. Feedback like this is the whole reason we do what we do.
Creating experiences that feel personal, intentional, and genuinely impactful. That's what our team shows up to build every single day! To hear that it landed that way, for the second year in a row, means everything.
Thank you for trusting us with your students and for taking the time to share this with us. We already can't wait for next year.

What does a career in injection molding actually look like?
Workforce Wednesday, produced by San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, went inside Garner Holt Productions to find out. They spoke with Dale, a Product Development Engineer who turns concepts into physical reality by designing, prototyping, and producing parts for themed entertainment installations worldwide.
At Garner Holt Education Through Imagination, this video offers a direct look at the industry our programs are built around, with a focus on supporting workforce development. The same engineering mindset, approach to manufacturing processes, and hands-on problem solving are brought into learning environments for students who may have never seen it before.
We’re proud of the work our team brings to the floor every day, and we’re grateful to Workforce SBCSS for telling that story!
