📣 NEW Part-time Program for High Schoolers!

We’re excited to announce something new at Acton Academy Redding! Launchpad Pathways is a part-time pilot program designed for independent high school students ages 15–18.

High school is full of questions about what comes next.

What am I good at?
What kind of work might I enjoy?
How do I actually get experience?
And how do I make decisions about my future without feeling like I need to have my whole life figured out at 17?

Launchpad Pathways is designed to help learners begin answering those questions through real experience.

This program is a powerful complement to a homeschool or other independent high school program, giving learners opportunities for real-world experience, professional skill-building, apprenticeships, and a consistent peer community alongside their academic work. They'll practice things like resume writing, interviewing, workplace communication, professionalism, leadership, collaboration, problem-solving, and taking ownership and initiative.

Most importantly, they’ll have a beloved community around them to cheer them on.

By the end of the four-month pilot, each learner will have tangible experience to take with them—including a resume, apprenticeship experience, greater confidence, and a clearer sense of direction for their Next Great Adventure.

Launchpad Pathways Program
For: Independent high school students, ages 15–18
Begins: October 20, 2026
Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays, with optional Fridays
Time: 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on Fridays (optional)
Tuition: $385/month for 4 months, scholarships available
Location: Acton Academy Redding, 6100 Oasis Road, Redding - Lower Campus

🌱 Wonder Studio is officially opening! 🌱

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Wonder Studio at Acton Academy Redding—a brand-new learning environment designed for 4-5 year olds!

Wonder Studio will be grounded in emergent learning, where learners’ natural curiosity, questions, and interests help shape each day. Through hands-on exploration, play, and meaningful projects, we’ll nurture independence, confidence, creativity, and a genuine love of learning... not to mention plenty of outdoor fun with lots of forest and a creek to explore!

✨ First Day: Monday, September 14
✨ $558/month
✨ Ages: 4–5
✨ Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-12:30pm

From engineering challenges and outdoor games, to mochi, cannonball competitions and a week-long mystery, our campers packed an entire summer into one AWESOME week. Here’s a quick glimpse!

This year, the entire camp was run by high schoolers as a fundraiser for their fall trip to DC!

Three years ago, I sat in the audience at our very first learner-led play and I was changed forever. Learner-led means they do everything-- from casting to choreography, directing to set-building, lights, costumes, backstage and props. This is not to mention the year-long planning, collaboration, budgeting, and communication that the production committee undertakes.

It is simply mind-blowing what young people are capable of when adults get out of the way.

Every year since, the learner-led play has become one of the most emotional and inspiring nights of our year at Acton. Because what you see on stage is so much bigger than a performance — it’s courage, growth, teamwork, ownership, creativity, confidence and transformation unfolding right in front of you.

This Friday, our learners take the stage again to perform The Greatest Showman.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, friend, or someone simply curious about what learner-driven education can look like… come experience it for yourself and be inspired. All are welcome.

For over 30 years, Professor Jabari Mahiri, Brinton Endowed Chair of Urban Education at the University of California, Berkeley, has been at the forefront of identifying and investigating paradigm-shifting pedagogy and praxis. Upon learning about Acton Academy Redding, Prof. Mahiri brought his research team for a week to observe, document, and better understand what becomes possible in a truly learner-led environment.

What they encountered challenges conventional assumptions about classroom management, control, and order in K12 education. In place of compliance-driven structures, they witnessed a community grounded in agency, accountability, and shared responsibility—where social and emotional learning (SEL) is not an add-on, but the foundation. Their work explores how SEL is cultivated not through prescriptive programs, but through lived practice—within a functioning beloved community where learners develop empathy, self-regulation, collaboration, and purpose in real time.

We are incredibly honored to have this work recognized and explored by expert educators. Their research helps illuminate the depth, rigor and transformative potential of learner-driven models like Acton. We look forward to the insight and findings they'll publish for the broader education community. 🙌🏼
