Over the coming weeks, we’ll be highlighting students who completed internships through GCED’s Learn & Earn program in 2025-2026. It provides participants with hands-on, career-connected learning experiences and prepares them for success after high school. Today, we’re kicking things off with Dawson, who interned at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing.

Dawson had the unique opportunity of working alongside Ben Bluhm and the St. James maintenance team as they renovated the historic Main Street building. With this hands-on experience, Dawson learned how important communication is in the workplace, a piece of wisdom he plans to carry with him in his future professional career. Way to go, Dawson!

This spring, students from the River Bluff Education Center wrapped up a year of experiential learning with a series of service projects. During one community outreach initiative, they placed hand-painted kindness rocks along the Cannon Valley Trail and created encouraging sidewalk art near public spaces and local businesses. Their final act of service was a large-scale cleanup of trash from a nearby ditch on Quarry Lane. We are proud of every student for their hard work!
