Meet Wendy Jourdain!
Get to know Wendy, in her own words:
“Boozhoo! Aaniin! My name is Wendy Jourdain, and I am excited to begin another school year at Endazhi-Nitaawiging Charter School, where I will be teaching Eko-Nising.
My path to the classroom has been a little different from the traditional path. Before becoming an educator, I spent more than 18 years working in leadership,
administration, program development, policy, community development, and tribal affairs.
My professional experience has included developing programs, writing grants,
supporting community initiatives, working with organizations and leadership, and
helping turn ideas into programs that serve people and communities. I also have a deep love for culture, art, language, land-based learning, and traditional knowledge.
At Endazhi-Nitaawiging, I have had the privilege of learning alongside our students and developing learning experiences that connect academics with culture, community, language, and the world around us. This year brings a new adventure as I welcome the students of Eko-Nising.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy creating art, working on community and cultural
projects, spending time with family, and learning and sharing traditional teachings and skills. I am also passionate about creating opportunities for our young people to experience culture through doing—not simply learning about it from a book.
One of the things I value most about teaching is watching a child discover, “I can do
this.” I believe every child comes to school carrying knowledge, gifts, curiosity, and a story. My role is to help nurture those gifts, challenge them to grow, and create a classroom where they know they belong.
I am looking forward to getting to know Eko-Nising and their families and beginning another year of learning, growing, laughing, creating, and discovering together.
