Antelope Elementary School Garden

Antelope Elementary School Garden Antelope Elementary School Garden Committee has the goal of turning an open, grassy area on the school campus, into a garden and outdoor classroom.

The allocated space is approximately 60ft x 20ft. and located in an isolated part of the campus. Our garden will inspire and support cross-curricular hands-on learning opportunities and provide students with the opportunity to “eat what they farm”. The garden will also serve as an educational tool for teaching students the basic fundamentals of a healthy diet.

Happy Spring Break everyone. The garden project continues to move along...we are anticipating an answer any day from
Sierra Pacific on the request for the material to build the boxes. Until that happens, the ISHI Conservation Work Crew is coming in to do some brush clearing and to remove trees, an old fence, hedge and any remaining weeds we have missed. Once that is done, we will be ready to build the boxes and plumb. If anyone is interested in helping this week, let us know. Please, keep in mind, that no kids will be allowed at the school while they Work Crew is on campus. Thanks!

New updates, we got a trencher on hold at Guy rents and the booster club just gave the greenlight on a nice donation. Thank you to the booster club! We may do some work this Saturday and if anyone wants to help work on the irrigation, please, let me know. -Tom ([email protected])

Some news.... just talked to Russ Harman (Alsco) and they will take care of our list of needs. He said no problem and will call us when its ready. I have to say, it is quite impressive how easy it is to go into one of our favorite "local" businesses, tell them about a worthwile cause, and have them offer immediately to help. One of the many benefits of living in Red Bluff.

Sunday we will try to do something in the garden. We are going to mow the grass as low as possible (we have mower already).....then cap the sprinklers and trench 2 lines down the center of the garden to place the 2 main irrigation lines. We could also start some cardboard spreading in the areas not getting trenched and remove/replant the bushes/trees along the fenceline. If you can join us, that would be great. We also need our design team out there Sunday and your all on it, final design concept needs to be decided.

Okay, we got the Letter typed and approved to go home to parents, it will come home tomorrow. There will also be extra copies of these to pick up in the office, if anyone wants to hand them out to local businesses or family members. Or, if there aren't any in the office, ask Emily or I and I can email the letter with the school logo on it. We need all kinds of volunteers...from W**d Pullers to Box Builders to Tool Shed Contractors to wheel barrell pushers, it's time to make this happen. WE can do it!!! This weekend, we are planning to mow on Saturday and prep the grass to be covered with cardboard and wood chips. There may be a few other jobs to do if anyone is available to help, stop by. Before we can really get after it....we need to expose the sprinkler lines....a representative from Rain Drip is meeting us tomorrow and we will be ready to formulate this plan.

Anyone able to haul about 10-12 yards of Wood Chips/Dirt if needed in the next day or so? We are working on a dump truck option, but we Need a backup in case. Even a few dump trailers would be helpful if we knew they were available.....I can tow it even. Thanks, Tom
