Please help us give a warm welcome to our new Interpreter, Kathlee Yates!

Kathlee Yates is thrilled to join the team as State Park Interpreter I at William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park. Her journey with California State Parks began as a volunteer at Shasta State Historic Park while earning a bachelor’s degree in history. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for public history and interpretation.
Since then, she has served as a historical interpreter at a living history museum in Iowa, managed an income tax office, and most recently supported the opening of Dos Rios State Park in June 2024. While launching a new park was a rewarding adventure, she is excited to reconnect with her roots in the North Valley and continue her work in the field of history.
She looks forward to collaborating with colleagues—both familiar and new—and contributing to the meaningful work of preserving and sharing California’s rich heritage.

Our spring field trips for 4th-graders have come to an end for the season. Staff, along with the essential help of five dedicated long-term volunteers, spent the months of March and April sending students back in time to experience life in 1850s California. Over 150 local students were able to spend a day living life as an early California settler and learning skills like woodworking, schooling, and candle making. This program is the highlight of the season for students, staff, and volunteers alike.
