Today, we recognize National Children’s Memorial Flag Day, observed each year on the fourth Friday of April, as we honor the lives of children lost to abuse and neglect. This day also marks the close of Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to reflect, remember, and recommit to protecting our most vulnerable.

Across communities in Tehama County, ceremonies were held in Red Bluff at 8:30 a.m. and in Corning at 10:00 a.m. Flags were raised, and moments of silence were held in remembrance, while also raising awareness of the importance of prevention and community responsibility.

Early Learning Programs & Services play a vital role in this effort by supporting children and families from the very beginning. Through safe, nurturing environments, developmental screenings, family resources, and early intervention, these programs help identify concerns early, strengthen families, and promote healthy child development. By building strong foundations and connecting families to support, we can help prevent abuse and neglect before it happens.

Today, we stand together to honor, to remember, and to continue the work of creating safe, supportive environments where every child can thrive.
