Originally built in 1924, Southern Middle School continues to blend tradition with progress. This summer, our Facilities Department upgraded the gym's lighting to energy-efficient LED fixtures, creating a brighter space for students, staff, and spectators.

In partnership with Keystone Sports Construction, the district also completed a full rehabilitation of the hardwood court with the Red Knights branding, giving the gym a fresh new look while preserving a space that has served generations of Red Knights. We can't wait to see our students make new memories on this beautiful court.

Construida originalmente en 1924, la Escuela Intermedia Southern sigue combinando la tradición con el progreso. Este verano, nuestro Departamento de Instalaciones actualizó la iluminación del gimnasio con luces LED de bajo consumo, creando un espacio más luminoso para los estudiantes, el personal y los espectadores.

Our Back to School Bash will be held today, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, rain or shine, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Our team has worked hard to create a fun, welcoming event for our students and families, and we can't wait to celebrate the start of a new school year together.

Join us for an afternoon filled with community, school spirit, and excitement as we kick off another great year in the Reading School District.

Learning never stops in the Reading School District! Our Facilities Maintenance Group is always sharpening their skills to better serve our schools and community. Recently, team members completed Forklift and Aerial Lift Training with Jeff Phillippi, Safety Director from EHD Insurance, who also oversees the Safety Committee here at RSD!

The group went through two 90-minute classroom courses before heading outside for training on the RSD Forklift and RSD Bucket Truck. This team expanded their expertise and reinforced their commitment to safety, efficiency, and excellence with new certifications for another 3 years.

¡El aprendizaje nunca se detiene en el Distrito Escolar Reading (RSD)! Nuestro equipo de mantenimiento de instalaciones perfecciona constantemente sus habilidades para servir mejor a nuestras escuelas y a la comunidad. Recientemente, los miembros del equipo completaron una capacitación sobre el manejo de montacargas y plataformas elevadoras impartida por Jeff Phillippi, Director de Seguridad de EHD Insurance, quien también supervisa el Comité de Seguridad de RSD.

El grupo asistió a dos sesiones teóricas de 90 minutos antes de pasar a la parte práctica en exteriores con el montacargas y el camión con cesta elevadora del distrito. Con estas nuevas certificaciones, válidas por otros tres años, el equipo amplió sus conocimientos y reafirmó su compromiso con la seguridad, la eficiencia y la excelencia.
