The City of Reading hosted its fifth annual 6th Ward Block Party on Saturday, September 12th.

The celebration kicked off at Lauer’s Park Elementary with a reveal of a brand new StoryWalk. The StoryWalk was made possible because of a partnership between Reading Public Library, Reading Public Works, and Wyomissing Foundation.

The 6th Ward Block party had live entertainment, music, informational vendors and booths, games, dancing, and Zumba. What a great way to connect with our community!

La ciudad de Reading celebró su quinta fiesta anual del vecindario (Block Party) del Distrito 6 el sábado 12 de septiembre.

La celebración comenzó en la escuela primaria Lauer’s Park con la presentación de un nuevo *StoryWalk*. Esta iniciativa fue posible gracias a la colaboración entre la biblioteca pública de Reading, el departamento de obras públicas de Reading y la Fundación Wyomissing.

La fiesta del Distrito 6 contó con entretenimiento en vivo, música, puestos informativos, juegos, baile y clases de Zumba. ¡Qué excelente manera de conectar con nuestra comunidad!

The Back-to-School and Open House events at Lauer’s Park were a success!

Students and families were able to meet their teacher and receive valuable information. Families were also greeted by community partners such as the Reading Public Library, Millersville University, Olivet’s Boys and Girls Club, and Caron Education Alliance.

Ms. Grabowski’s 2nd-grade class at Tyson-Schoener read Alma & the Worry Stone to help conquer those back-to-school worries! 💛 📚✨

In the story, Alma learns to manage her overwhelming worries by rubbing a special worry stone, helping her focus on happy memories and find the courage to face her fears. 🪨🌟

After reading, each student created their very own worry stone, just like Alma! Now, whenever a worry pops up, they have a special reminder that they are brave, strong, and ready to take on the school year! 💪📚

La clase de segundo grado de la Sra. Grabowski en la escuela Tyson-Schoener leyó la historia de *Alma & the Worry Stone* para ayudar a superar los nervios del regreso a clases. 💛 📚✨

En la historia, Alma aprende a manejar sus preocupaciones agobiantes frotando una piedra especial; esto le ayuda a concentrarse en recuerdos felices y a encontrar la valentía para enfrentar sus miedos. 🪨🌟

Shout-out to the ELA Team at Central Middle School!

CMS ELA teachers kicked off the school year with an exciting new writing process focused on helping students become confident, independent writers.
Students have been working hard to create helpful anchor charts, break down and understand writing prompts, study strong examples of writing, and practice organizing and drafting their work.

We are so proud of the effort these students are already putting into their writing, and we can’t wait to see how much they grow throughout the year! We’re off to a great start, Central!

¡Felicitamos al equipo de Lengua y Literatura (ELA) de Escuela Intermedia Central!

Los docentes de ELA de CMS iniciaron el año escolar con un nuevo y estimulante proceso de escritura, enfocado en ayudar a los alumnos a convertirse en escritores seguros e independientes.

Los alumnos se han esforzado mucho creando carteles de referencia útiles, analizando y comprendiendo las pautas de escritura, estudiando ejemplos de textos de calidad y practicando la organización y la redacción de sus propios trabajos.

Estamos muy orgullosos del esfuerzo que estos alumnos ya están dedicando a su escritura, ¡y estamos ansiosos por ver cuánto crecerán a lo largo del año! ¡Hemos tenido un excelente comienzo, Central!

We wish all of our Reading School District families a happy and safe Labor Day weekend. Please remember that schools will be closed on Friday, September 4, 2026, however all offices will remain open. The district will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
