We are proud to announce that Nate Ross, Director of Communications, in collaboration with Lone Cricket Productions, has received an Award of Merit from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) as part of the 2026 Publications & Digital Media Excellence Awards.

The award-winning video project, "Opening Day Introduction 2025," kicked off the 2025-2026 school year and re-introduced our fearless leader, Dr. Khalid N. Mumin, back to the entire staff and Red Knight community. A big shout out to Noah, from Millmont Elementary School for his amazing on screen performance!

On Monday, June 8th, the RSD Human Resources Department hosted our annual Retiree Luncheon at the Neag Planetarium at the Reading Public Museum, celebrating the remarkable careers of this year's retirees. Surrounded by members of the RSD School Board of Directors, administrators, family, friends, and fellow colleagues, we honored 41 retirees whose combined service totals an incredible 869.5 years. Sixteen of our retirees were able to attend the luncheon, representing 356 years of dedicated service.

We extend special recognition to Lisa Iezzi, former Secretary to the Superintendent and Secretary to the Board of School Directors, who devoted 37 years to the district, and Edward Eppenstein, our landscaper/arborist, whose extraordinary 45 years of service leaves a lasting legacy.

To all of our retirees, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and the countless lives you have touched throughout your careers. Your contributions have helped shape generations of Red Knights, and your impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for being an important part of the Red Knight family. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Russo’s Italian Gourmet Foods and Market for catering the event.

El lunes 8 de junio, el Departamento de Recursos Humanos del Distrito Escolar Reading organizó nuestro almuerzo anual para jubilados en el Planetario Neag del museo público de Reading, con el fin de celebrar las destacadas trayectorias de quienes se jubilan este año. Rodeados de miembros de la Junta Directiva Escolar del distrito, administradores, familiares, amigos y compañeros de trabajo, rendimos homenaje a 41 jubilados cuya trayectoria combinada suma la increíble cifra de 869.5 años de servicio. Dieciséis de nuestros jubilados pudieron asistir al almuerzo, lo que representa 356 años de servicio dedicado.

Extendemos un reconocimiento especial a Lisa Iezzi, exsecretaria del Superintendente y de la Junta Directiva Escolar, quien dedicó 37 años al distrito, y a Edward Eppenstein, nuestro paisajista y arborista, cuyos extraordinarios 45 años de servicio dejan un legado perdurable.

A todos nuestros jubilados: gracias por su dedicación, su compromiso y por las innumerables vidas que han marcado a lo largo de sus carreras. Sus contribuciones han ayudado a formar a generaciones de Caballeros Rojos, y su impacto seguirá siendo sentido durante muchos años.

Summer Meals will be served at all of the Elementary Schools (except 12th & Marion, Lauer’s Park, and 10th & Green), NEMS, NWMS, City Line and CMS from June 15-July 31, Mondays through Thursdays.

Breakfast will be available from 8:00am-9:00am and Lunch will be available from 11:30am-12:30pm. These sites will be open sites (any child aged 1-18 are welcome to attend – children do not need to be students enrolled in the Reading School District to participate at open sites).

Families are encouraged to enter through the main office and will be directed to the cafeteria or at the cafeteria entrance marked with a sign. During the summer, meals must be eaten in the cafeteria.

Durante el verano estaremos sirviendo comidas en todas las escuelas primarias, excepto en 12th & Marion, Lauer’s Park y 10th & Green. También ofreceremos comidas en las escuelas intermedias Northeast, Northwest, City Line y Central, del 15 de junio al 31 de julio, de lunes a jueves.

El desayuno se servirá de 8:00 a. m. a 9:00 a. m. y el almuerzo de 11:30 a. m. a 12:30 p. m. Estas ubicaciones estarán abiertas al público para cualquier niño de 1 a 18 años, sin importar si es estudiante del Distrito Escolar Reading.

Recomendamos a las familias entrar por la oficina principal; allí se les indicará cómo llegar a la cafetería. También pueden utilizar la entrada directa a la cafetería, la cual estará debidamente señalizada. Durante el verano, las comidas deben consumirse dentro de la cafetería.

On May 19, 2026, the Reading School District ESL Department hosted their first English Forward Dinner & Conversation event, bringing together adult students, families, instructors, and staff for an evening of food, conversation, and celebration.

English Forward is an adult ESL program offered through the Reading School District ESL Department in partnership with the Literacy Council of Reading and Berks. With 73 adult participants in attendance, the event provided an opportunity for adult English learners to practice their conversational English skills, build connections, and celebrate the completion of the Spring 2026 session.

A special thank you to our instructors, facilitators, childcare volunteers, and community partners who helped make this event possible. Your support and dedication continue to make a difference in the lives of our students and families.

Congratulations to all of our English Forward students on a successful semester. We are proud of your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to learning English!

El 19 de mayo de 2026, el Departamento de ESL del Distrito Escolar Reading organizó su primer evento "English Forward: Cena y Conversación", para reunir a estudiantes adultos, familias, instructores y personal para una velada de comida, conversación y celebración.

English Forward es un programa de ESL para adultos ofrecido por el Departamento de ESL del Distrito Escolar Reading en colaboración con el Literacy Council of Reading and Berks. Con la asistencia de 73 participantes adultos, el evento brindó a los estudiantes de inglés la oportunidad de practicar sus habilidades de conversación, establecer vínculos y celebrar la finalización del ciclo de primavera de 2026.

A huge shout-out and THANK YOU to all of the students, staff, teachers, administration, and families who donated and participated in Northeast's 7th and 8th Grade Chorus "$$Change for CHANGE$$" campaign. This year's spring chorus concert theme was "Songs for Change." Students shared, discussed, and voted on causes that were close to their hearts and their ability to impact change and support a cause. Chorus students banned together for a one-week campaign during concert week and collected $400 for the American Cancer Society! They well-exceeded their goal of $100. We are proud of our students and community for being change agents in our school and in our world! Thank you to ALL who participated! Have a great summer!



Un enorme agradecimiento a todos los estudiantes, el personal, los maestros, la administración y las familias que donaron y participaron en la campaña "$$Change for CHANGE$$" del coro de 7.º y 8.º grado de Northeast. El tema del concierto de primavera del coro de este año fue "Canciones para el cambio". Los estudiantes compartieron, debatieron y votaron por causas cercanas a sus corazones, así como por aquellas en las que podían generar un impacto positivo y brindar su apoyo. ¡Los integrantes del coro se unieron para llevar a cabo una campaña de una semana durante la semana del concierto y recaudaron 400 dólares para la Sociedad Americana contra el Cáncer!
