Discover Your Unique Voice

Welcome to Ellen Allen Music Studio, where my goal is to help you discover your unique voice!

I offer private voice lessons, vocal coaching, and audition preparation for students ages 10+. I teach both classical and musical theater styles of singing. Over the years, I have helped my students to land roles in their school and community productions, get into select choral ensembles, and earn acceptance to conservatory programs. Others have come just to learn to sing for fun, which is also an admirable goal!

My approach to voice teaching is rooted in classical principles, but is very student-focused. Every student learns proper body alignment, breathing, resonance, and musicianship and performance skills; but my goal is really to work with each student's particular goals and desires, giving each one a holistic musical experience and a safe place to cultivate their true voice. I take great care to tailor the lessons and materials we study to the needs, goals, personality of each student.

Who am I, and why is my approach unique?

I am a conservatory-educated, life-long musician with over a decade of private voice-teaching experience, as well as a wealth of performance experience. I grew up in a musical family and studied violin from age four through my teenage years, the last few of which were at a conservatory preparatory program. At that point, I decided to "become a singer" instead, and went on to earn both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in voice performance. My experience as both an instrumentalist and a singer lends a unique, blended perspective to my approach to vocal technique and music-learning not found in many voice studios. This has allowed me to work with students of nearly every age, level, musical background, and learning style.

My other passion, holistic health, also informs my teaching. In the face of challenges, I encourage my students to adopt an attitude of curiosity and discovery so that we can uncover and correct the root cause of an issue together. This process allows the student to build the confidence to self-assess and explore their own solutions in their practicing.

Any musical study requires a commitment, and I am here to support you in that commitment. When you choose to enroll in lessons, you will also get all the resources and support you need to succeed.
