Blaise Frey and Brady Williams from the Breeding Project have started fertilizing the yield trials and breeding nurseries at the RRS with ammonium sulfate. All planted trials have emerged with excellent stands! The second round of planting is expected to take place next week.

Our breeding program has successfully planted off-station breeding trials today at Bieber Farm in Mamou, Louisiana. These trials include a range of varieties, including advanced experimental, pre-commercial, and current varieties.

We're looking forward to the progress and insights these trials will bring as we continue working toward improving our varieties to Louisiana farmers.

The Rice Breeding Program at the HRC Rice Research Station started planting yield trials and nursery rows this week. Monday was cloudy and mild, while Thursday was sunny and a little chilly. In total, 3,106 plots (not including border plots) for various yield trials and 1,700 nursery rows were planted in two days. Thousands more of each left to go. 🌾

Brady Williams and Andrew Thibodeaux of the Breeding Lab at the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station applied 21-0-0 ammonium sulfate fertilizer at a rate of 100 lb/A to newly emerged rice seedlings at an off-station location today prior to the forthcoming rain this weekend. There are 895 research plots at this location alone that will be tested for plant height, yield, milling quality, etc. Over 9,000 plots are expected to be planted this year for the Breeding Lab at all research locations combined.

Planting of yield trials began today at the Rice Research Station for the Breeding Program. It was windy but quite nice out.

Our first Date of Planting trial was planted on 2/15/24 with plantings continuing every two weeks until late May - early June.
