On Monday, February 2, 2026, students from the Terry High School Branch of the Hinds County Career and Technical Center attended the Inaugural Healthcare Hackathon hosted by Millsaps College.
The day consisted of hands-on activities, lectures, and presentations from various schools on a range of topics. The writing prompt was "What is the biggest challenge in the US Healthcare System and how would YOU fix it?"
Team Healthcare Hustlers presented on "Racism in Healthcare", while Team White Coat Goats presented on "Burnout in Healthcare".
Of the 10 teams competing, Healthcare Hustlers placed 2nd. Each team member was awarded a $1000 merit-based scholarship to Millsaps College. We are extremely proud of their hard work.

Team Healthcare Hustlers: Kimora Powell, Jordyn Sutton, Kynsleigh Stewart, Addison Banks, Morghan Bolden, and Zykia Green.
Team Whitecoat Goats: Keevon Clark, Aaliyah Edwards, Madisyn Smith, Shykeria Leonard, Aniyah Chapman.

Students majoring in public relations, communications, journalism, advertising, mass communications, political communications, crisis management, graphic design, or other communication‑focused fields—this opportunity is for you!

The College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) is awarding three scholarships to qualifying Mississippi students, including 2026 high school graduates and current MS community college or 4‑year college students.

Dear Hinds County School District Families and Staff,

Based on the latest National Weather Service Winter Weather Update and the activation of the Hinds County Emergency Operations Center, Hinds County School District will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to ongoing and worsening weather conditions.

Key safety factors influencing this decision include:

• A major winter storm continues to impact Hinds County, with freezing rain and sleet expected through midday.
• Hazardous travel conditions are expected to persist into early this week, particularly on roads, bridges, and overpasses.
• Our district serves many rural areas where icy roads and limited treatment make travel especially unsafe for buses and families.
• Power outages are already occurring, with more than 2,000 customers currently without power, which may affect heating and safe school operations.
• Extremely cold temperatures will follow the storm, including:
• Wind chills near or below 10°F, with some areas near 0°F
• Overnight lows below 15°F
• Daytime highs at or below 32°F
• These conditions will prevent ice from melting and may delay road clearing and power restoration efforts.

Due to the size of our district, the number of rural routes we serve, and the continued risk to travel and facilities, closing schools is the safest decision for our students and staff. The district will continue to monitor conditions closely. Updates regarding reopening will be shared as soon as weather, road, and power conditions allow for safe operations. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize safety during this severe weather event.

We are so proud of our CTE Multimedia Students! These kids worked so hard and deserve every praise and congratulations for what they won. We are excited about seeing them compete at the TSA STATE competition! Let’s show ‘em how Hinds County does it!

A huge thank you to Daniel Anderson, owner of Audio Alchemy Productions, for spending the day with our Raymond High School CTE Multimedia students!

Daniel not only filmed “a day in the life” of our Multimedia Instructor, Ms. Atarji, but also shared his journey of building his company and following his passion. His message about perseverance and staying true to what makes you genuinely happy was both powerful and inspiring, giving students a real world look into the life of an independent business owner.

To end the day, Daniel generously provided the footage he captured and challenged our students to create their own video projects from it.

Thank you to Hitachi Energy Crystal Springs for visiting our CTE students and sharing valuable insights on cybersecurity awareness and digital citizenship. We truly appreciated the engaging presentation, the generous swag, and the opportunity to learn more about your company and its innovative technology!

The Crystal Springs and Richland Hitachi plants are manufacturing facilities. Roles at these locations include welders, mechanical and electrical engineers, and production workers.

The plants are involved in producing high-voltage electrical equipment, such as transformers.
