We are still buzzing from our 2019 Career Development Academies Summer Camp! Students were able to get ahead academically for the upcoming school year while also learning about Hinds Community College's Career and Technical Education programs, touring Alcorn University, participating in team building activities, and visiting the Mississippi River Basin Model. We also conceptualized, designed, developed, fabricated, and created original designs in the Hinds Community College Fab Lab. Our students had the ability to learn about and discuss issues such as alcohol prevention, mental health, conflict resolution, and how to make healthier decisions. They had the opportunity to explore careers, prepare for the ACT, and learn about the timeline to get to college. Not to mention, we also had a blast exploring the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science! Here's a peak at some of the fun we had this summer!

Friends of the Mississippi River Basin Model (FMRBM) gave a historical overview of the model and discussed on-going restoration efforts. The presentation was led by a local engineer who also presented the Dream Big documentary which introduced them to engineering careers and models from around the world. The students were actively engaged in asking questions and inspired them to inquire about engineering careers. Thank you again to FMRBM for this experience!

This summer we had the pleasure of taking a field trip to the Mississippi River Basin Model. We had a first hand view of the on-going restoration of the model. It was exciting to see the massive scale of this representation of the Mississippi River. The students learned how it was used to help our state in building levees to avoid flooding. We thank Friends of Mississippi River Basin Model for giving us this rich experience!
