Over the years we have enjoyed celebrating El Día de los Reyes - Three Kings Day! Main points include the Biblical account of the Magi from Matthew 2, the cultural celebrations and parades in Spain and Central America, and practicing some key Spanish words. This year we were all laughing and delighted with Abigail’s dancing to Feliz Navidad. 👑

Play is the foundation.

Yes, it’s true that Kindergarten has transformed into First Grade. Yes, children will need to learn academics, listen and sit still. But that certainly doesn’t mean that these lessons should be straight-jacketed onto them in the toddler and preschool years. In fact, the funneling down of structured learning is all the more reason to let children play while they can. We must fiercely protect this precious, ever shrinking window of time for our children.

Play is enough. Play is enough. Play is enough. This should be our educational mantra for the first 5 years.

Babies and young kids (and my six year olds are not an exception...) will put anything in their mouths. Water beads, though fun, can be seriously harmful. I'm shocked and saddened to learn of these harmful effects. I want to share this information to promote awareness, not fear. Safety first.

We love marveling are God’s creation! In the past two weeks, so many Indian Pipes have popped up in our woods. They are flowers (not mushrooms, like I first thought!) but they lack any chlorophyll.

This week we closed out summer with ice cream cones! It's been a sweet season of laughter and play with our friends. We are all entering new rhythms that the school year brings. With gratitude, we remember our adventures. With joy, we embrace the journey of learning ahead of us.
