The last day I worked before Christmas break, I was ready to quit.

It wasn’t the kids. They weren’t awful.
It wasn’t the parents. I actually have great families.

I was just burned out.
Tired.
Worn down.
Stressed.
At my limit.

That night I sat there thinking, I don’t know if I can keep doing this. I honestly felt done.

Then Christmas break happened.

I took some time off, and it gave me exactly what I needed. A reset. A recharge. Space to breathe.

Today I went back excited to see everyone again. Excited to care for the kids. Ready to do the job I love.

You cannot pour from an empty cup. You cannot keep giving and giving without ever stopping. Taking time off isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.

We’ve got to stop feeling guilty for taking breaks. Because if we don’t, we burn out. And when providers burn out, they quit. Then families are left scrambling with no care at all.

So what do you think families would rather have?
A provider who takes time to recharge when needed, or a provider who pushes until they quit?

Time off is how we do this for the long haul.

I am amazed at how different I feel today compared to the start of break. I was done then. Now I’m ready to keep going.

Sometimes all we need is a little time to breathe.
