π PSA for All Soon-to-Be Kindergarten Parents! π
Kindergarten lunch is a BIG adjustment for little onesβand a little practice at home can make a HUGE difference! π
Before school starts, try practicing βschool lunchβ with your kiddo:
π Practice opening everything! Make sure they can independently open their lunchbox, containers, wrappers, snack bags, milk, etc. If they canβt open it at home, they may not be able to open it at school!
π₯ͺ Talk about where food goes. Practice eating from their lunch and remind them that food belongs in their lunchβnot on the table! π
β° Set a 15-minute timer. Talk about how lunch may feel short and that they might not finish everything. Thatβs okay! The goal is to eat what they can and keep moving.
ποΈ Practice packing up. When lunch is over, practice deciding what is trash and what needs to go back into the lunchbox. Bonus points for practicing putting everything away independently!
π Make it a routine! The more familiar the process feels, the more confident your child will be when they walk into the lunchroom.
A little practice now can mean less stress, more independence, and a much smoother kindergarten lunch experience! π
Youβve got this, kindergarten parents! And rememberβ¦ kindergarteners are learning EVERYTHINGβincluding how to eat lunch at school! π₯°
