A pause year for Schole
Hello Friends,

It is with bittersweet emotions we share we will be not be hosting scholé this year. After having some lovely conversations with different families about their needs and limitations, as well as assessing our own commitments and energy levels, it became clear that while many were still interested in scholé, we didn’t have the needed team or the personal health and energy to best serve our community well on our own.

We wanted to come to a decision sooner rather than later so that you have time to join any of the other worthy homeschool groups in our area.

Last year was a delight to be a part of and we are so proud of what we accomplished together. We want to thank all the families who made this project life-giving to us as a family and to us as a community.

We are so sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping and even counting on us continuing this fall. If we could see a way forward where we could serve the community well, while maintaining the heart behind scholé, we would continue.

We are considering this a “pause” year, allowing us to regroup, and potentially restarting with a new vision and team in the next school year (2025-2026). If you would be interested in being part of a scholé relaunch team at a future date, please let us know.

In the meantime, we pray and hope that you all have a restful and wonderful school year.

Warmly,

Kimi

Hello Homeschooling Community!

Are you interested in getting more information about Black Hills Scholé School (BHSS)? We are a community that is shaped by Charlotte Mason and classical education and aspires to be a community of like-minded families educating their children together. We’ve been thrilled to read excellent literature together, explore history, study Shakespeare, and even put on a Shakespeare play this last year!

My husband and I are gone for the month of June for a ministry sabbatical, but meanwhile, we’ve been getting inquiries about BHSS, so we wanted to start this interest list so that we can get back to you upon our return! (I won’t be on Facebook very much for this next month, so look for replies from me next month!)

Another way to look at education is enculturation: a process of passing on values, habits, knowledge, and ways of living and thinking. We want to help form and educate our children holistically, not simply through the lens of getting through their needed subjects. At the end of their education, we want them prepared for the world.

And that’s a big reason we are forming a scholé community!

Because we know it’s a wonderful way to build a culture of learning, reflection, wonder, and respect for each other. We are looking forward to our first day on September 12th!

We have spots left in our 5th-8th and 9th-12th grade classes. Contact us for more information!

We are looking forward to our children having the delightful experience of "living in far lands" as they read good books together this school year! We still have some spots open in our 5th-8th grade group, and our high school group this fall. Private message us or email us at [email protected] for more information if you are interested.

One of the greatest gifts we can cultivate in our kids? A love of good books. Like Charlotte Mason argues below, the best books are like a glorious kingdom, a continual holiday, and a feast!

We've just ordered the last of the books we will be enjoying together as a school and as a family, and it's like Christmas getting them in the mail!

Mason's influence is one reason books are a central part of our Black Hills Scholé School.
