Four years running, baby! I defended my title and earned Best of Show for my vegetable display for the fourth year in a row at the Portage County Randolph Fair! Woohoo! And my floral arrangement took a blue ribbon too. The kids' novelty displays took a 1st and a second, Ellis's mini floral took a second, and Mike's eggplant took a blue ribbon too. Sadly, his giant w**d wasn't the tallest and his onion wasn't the heaviest and they didn't place. Bummer. Find all these tasty veggies and beautiful flowers Saturday at the Haymaker Farmers' Market. And get out to the Portage County Randolph Fair and support local agriculture! We're Best of Show!

Farmer Megan came over and we knocked out 32 pints of salsa. Preservation Sunday, fueled by sloppy joes and potato skins, we nailed it.

Keith picked red raspberries this morning at Dillon Fruit Farm. Diane had 'em jammed by 4pm. Plain Ol Red Raspberry. The best. Available Saturday at Haymaker.

Had the best dang day with the people I love most at Pioneer Waterland. All the water slides. Lazy river. Go carts. Grillin' in the picnic area and refueling for more water slides with a dang smorgasbord of delicious eats. Followed by ice cream and slushies at King Kone. 10 out of 10 summer day.
My brother said to a friend, "The Bartons have limited time for recreation" and damn it if that ain't true in the summer. But we got off the farm and made the absolute most of today. So. Much. Fun.

Happy birthday, Farmer Mike! He spent his day working; harvesting leeks, scallions, zucchini, peppers, and more for Saturday's market. I asked him what crop he was most proud of this year and he said, "This year? None of 'em." So I made him pose with a watermelon because, "The watermelons are ok."
