Coming to RiverMist Farms in Church Hill, TN!

Join Michael and Julia Lyons for a 3 day Ranch Riding Clinic focused on developing the skills needed to create a willing, responsive, and confident ranch horse.
Whether your goal is to compete in ranch riding, improve your horsemanship, or simply gain a better understanding of how to guide and communicate with your horse, this clinic is designed to help you build a stronger foundation.
Ranch riding is about much more than memorizing a pattern. It is about creating a horse that is soft, responsive, and capable of performing each maneuver with purpose and understanding. Throughout the clinic, we will break down the individual pieces that make up a successful ranch riding horse and show you how to improve both horse and rider.

What You'll Work On:
• Creating forward, willing movement without tension
• Improving transitions and making them smooth and purposeful
• Building better body control of the shoulders, ribcage, and hips
• Developing softness, responsiveness, and connection
• Understanding how to improve maneuver ex*****on
• Creating better stops, turns, and lead departures
• Learning how to ride patterns with confidence and precision
• Understanding what judges are looking for in ranch riding classes
This Clinic is Perfect For Riders Who:
• Want to improve their ranch riding performance
• Are preparing for ranch horse competitions
• Want a better understanding of body control and maneuver development

The trail has a way of exposing our horses, and horsemanship to us.

It doesn’t create problems.
It reveals them. The horse that suddenly feels anxious on the trail? The steering that falls apart in a wide open field, or when needing to weave precisely around rough terrain.
It wasn’t the trail that took it away.

The hesitation to cross water…
The rushing downhill…
The refusal to leave other horses…
The loss of softness when things get unfamiliar…
Those aren’t problems the trail created, they’re pieces of the foundation that simply haven’t been tested yet.

One of the reasons we love taking horses out and about is because the trail gives honest feedback. It exposes the places where confidence, communication, and understanding still need to grow.

Its gives us an opportunity to help do better for our horse. To strengthen our cue system, teach our horse to lean on us more, and over all create an all around willing horse. Every challenge is simply your horse saying, “This is the next lesson I need.”

So don’t get frustrated when the trail reveals a weakness. Be thankful it showed you where to focus your training. Then go home, work on the foundation, and come back again.

What has the trail taught you about your horse?

I think you could say they all enjoyed it!
Thank you Therasage EMC for all the hard work you and your students put into making the barn feel their best!
We love hosting their program every year and seeing all of the horses love the attention and therapies.

A couple weeks ago we spent the weekend at the SERHS show, and while the placings and scores were exciting, they weren’t our favorite part. Our favorite part was watching riders support one another, cheer each other on, work through the tough moments, celebrate the wins, and continue to grow together.

Every horse stepped into that arena a little better prepared. Every rider left with a little more confidence, knowledge, and experience than when they arrived. That’s what makes weekends like this so rewarding.

Thank you to every client who trusted us with the journey, worked hard between shows, and represented Michael Lyons Horsemanship with kindness and sportsmanship. You make us proud every time you walk through the gate.

Congratulations to every one of you. Whether you came home with a championship, hit a personal best, conquered a class that intimidated you, or simply gained confidence, those are victories worth celebrating.

One of the hardest parts about breeding horses you genuinely love is deciding which ones get to stay and which ones have to go.

Because if we kept every good one, we’d eventually need a second farm… and probably a second mortgage. 😂

So, with equal parts excitement and heartbreak, we’re offering Vegas.

Vegas is a son of Tricked Out Spook and out of Whiskey N Juice, and he is everything we hoped he’d be. He’s kind, curious, easy to be around, and built in a package that’s hard not to stare at. His little head, beautiful conformation, and naturally eye-catching movement are going to make him a flashy horse wherever he goes.

The good ones are always the hardest to let leave, and Vegas definitely falls into that category.

If you’re looking for a quality prospect with a great mind, a proven pedigree, and all the pieces to be something special, Vegas might just be your guy.

King is heading home!

Not every horse comes to training to be started. Sometimes they come to be reminded.

King, an 16-year-old Quarter Horse, joined us for a tune-up and to get back into a productive, willing working mindset. His time here wasn’t about reinventing the wheel, it was about sharpening the tools he already had.

Over the last several weeks, King has been reminded of the value of consistency, responsiveness, and staying connected to his rider. He put in the work, showed up each day, and proved that age is just a number when it comes to learning and improving.

Congratulations to King and his owners on the progress they’ve made together. We can’t wait to see him continue building on this foundation back at home.
