22.5% - basically what they think of their buddies
"The academic peer assessment survey allows top academics – presidents, provosts and deans of admissions – to account for intangibles at peer institutions, such as faculty dedication to teaching"
12.5% - how selective they are, or how they cranked up the marketing machine for more applications and then denied them. It makes them "elite".

Great article about financial aid. Knowing your family's EFC is key. Looking for "need-based" aid is a different strategy than looking for "merit" aid. Maybe it is a mix of both. Spending time looking for outside scholarship $$ represents only 10%. If you are going to play the "game", know the rules.

To shrink the cost of college, you need to know about the main sources of free money for college.

Essay season is well under way and many students looking to apply to the UC's get "stuck" on the essay prompts. One recurring theme I hear from admission officers is that students do not fully answer the prompts. They do a great job of writing about "the world they come from" but stay in the past. This NACAC post by Rebecca Joseph explains a great approach - rephrase the prompt! What drop of water are you adding?
