We said there was too much to contain in one post. We meant it.

This is what professional development looks like in Reggio Emilia.

Our director Jose sat down in a photography and stop-motion atelier breakout led by a Reggio atelierista. The session began with a group provocation — "Time's Traces: how many and what traces are made visible by time?" — and a blank sheet of paper. Teachers brainstormed together. The atelierista walked the room, studying what each group had generated, and circled the ideas worth pursuing.
Jose's group landed on stop-motion. The subject: a donut, being eaten. What you're watching is the result.

It sounds simple. It is. That's the point. Reggio has always understood that the most powerful learning happens when you strip away the complicated and sit with a real thing, a real question, and enough time to actually look.

Our teachers didn't just study this philosophy. They did it.

Reggio Emilia, Italy - 1st Photo
They went to the source.
Our teachers just returned from Reggio Emilia, Italy — the city where this philosophy was born and where it continues to evolve.

The Provocation - 2nd Photo
It started with a question: "How many and what traces are made visible by time?"
A blank sheet. A small group of teachers. A Reggio atelierista walking the room — listening, observing, then circling the ideas worth pursuing. This is how learning begins here.

Hands in the Work - 3rd Photo
They didn't just observe. They worked.
In a clay atelier at the Malaguzzi Centre, our teachers sat alongside atelieristas and explored with their hands. The same invitation we extend to our students every day — real materials, real process, no predetermined outcome.

The Environment as a Teacher - 4th Photo
In Reggio Emilia, the environment is never an afterthought.
This outdoor space — pallets, branches, loose wooden forms, open sky — is designed to provoke curiosity and invite construction. Our teachers studied it the way they study our own classroom: as a third teacher, full of intention.

The Living Philosophy - 5th Photo
Reggio Emilia isn't a curriculum you import. It's a culture an entire city has built together over decades — one that understands its youngest citizens deserve its best thinking.
Standing inside that, witnessing it firsthand, changes how you see your work.

After More Exploration, They Return - Photos 6-9
Now our teachers are home, with new eyes.
Our students will feel that.

Welcome home! We can't wait to see what they do next.

The Reggio way: where the environment itself is always teaching.

Light tables glow with an invitation to look closer. Natural materials wait to be sorted, stacked, and reimagined. The kitchen, the instrument corner, the art shelf, the block area, the dramatic play space — each one carefully arranged to ask a question rather than give an answer. Our classrooms aren't decorated; they're designed. Every shelf, every material, every corner is a provocation.

Through this intentional environment, our students are developing agency and curiosity, learning that their interests drive what happens next, and discovering that a space can speak to them — that the world itself is something to explore, not just receive.

No two days in our environment are alike, because every child's curiosity changes what the space becomes.
