Who invented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? 🥋🇧🇷
BJJ wasn’t created by just one person. Its roots trace back to Japanese Jujutsu and Judo, with Mitsuyo Maeda bringing his grappling knowledge to Brazil in the early 1900s.

From there, pioneers like Carlos Gracie and Hélio Gracie helped develop the art into what we now recognize as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—placing a greater emphasis on leverage, ground fighting, submissions, and allowing a smaller person to overcome a larger opponent.

Other important figures, including Luiz França and Oswaldo Fadda, also played a major role in developing and spreading Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu outside the Gracie lineage.

So who invented BJJ? The better answer is: it evolved through generations of martial artists. 💪🥋
