Fun Friday was all about water play! 💦☀️

Our little infant enjoyed the splash pad and slide alongside her friend while exploring sea animals in the water. 🐠🐬

Water play gives infants so many opportunities to learn. She was exploring temperature, movement, splashing, and different textures while building sensory awareness. Reaching for the sea animals and moving through the water also supported her hand-eye coordination, fine-motor skills, balance, and gross-motor development.

Playing beside her friend supported social development too. She was able to observe, interact, laugh, and enjoy being part of the group.

Fun, simple experiences like water play help infants build confidence, curiosity, and an understanding of the world around them. 💙

Our little infant created her own apple masterpiece today! 🍎❤️

I tore red construction paper into small pieces, added glue to an apple template, and let her explore by picking up and dropping the red paper pieces onto the sticky surface.

This simple activity supported so many areas of development. She worked on grasping and releasing, hand-eye coordination, fine-motor skills, sensory exploration, and cause and effect as she watched the paper fall and stick to her apple.

She was also practicing concentration and making choices as she decided where and how to place the pieces. Most importantly, she was able to participate in our classroom art activity in a way that was developmentally appropriate for her age. 🥰

Today’s dramatic play came straight from something my toddler has been watching me do every day. 🧽💦

I noticed that when I clean off his table outside, he has been watching me closely and trying to mimic what I do. So I cut a sponge in half, gave him a clean recycled infant food container with a little soap and water, and let him take complete control of his play.

He practiced wiping, squeezing, dipping, and cleaning just like he sees me do. While it may look like he was simply “helping clean,” he was actually working on fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, independence, concentration, problem-solving, and following real-life routines.

This is also a great example of how toddlers learn through imitation. They watch us, study what we do, and then use play to make sense of their world.

Sometimes the best activities are the simple ones inspired by what our little ones are already interested in. 💙

Our little infant has her very own outdoor learning space designed just for her! 💕☀️

Her area includes soft foam mats, learning manipulatives, a mirror, shape toys, books, plastic stacking blocks, soft climbing pillows, sensory balls, teething toys, and more.

Outdoor play gives her the chance to explore using all of her senses while also building important developmental skills. She is working on reaching, grasping, crawling, balance, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, self-awareness, and early language skills.

The soft climbing pillows help support her gross-motor development, while the smaller toys and manipulatives strengthen her fine-motor skills. The mirror helps with self-recognition, and the sensory and teething toys allow her to safely explore different textures.

Most importantly, she gets to enjoy the outdoors in a safe space made especially for her while still being part of our classroom community. 🌿👶🏽💛

Today my toddler spent some time “cooking” in our dramatic play area. 🍳🥕🥄

While it may look like simple pretend play, he is actually learning so much! He is building language skills by naming foods and kitchen items, using his imagination, practicing everyday routines, and learning how to care for others through pretend play.

He is also strengthening his fine-motor skills by stirring, scooping, pouring, opening containers, and using play utensils. Dramatic play supports problem-solving, independence, communication, social-emotional development, and confidence.

Sometimes the best learning happens when children are simply given the space to play, explore, and use their imagination. 💙

My toddler has been working on toddler-sized animal puzzles this week, and I am so proud of his progress! 🧩🐘🐶

He was just introduced to these puzzles on Monday, and he is already on his way to mastering them. He has to match each animal to the correct spot and then use his little hands to clip the pieces into place.

While he’s having fun, he’s also working on fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, matching, problem-solving, concentration, memory, and independence.

I love watching him figure things out on his own and seeing that confidence grow each time he gets a piece into place. 💙
