Superintendent of Anoka-Hennepin Schools, Greg Cole, has a background in teaching. ICYMI: He also writes regular columns for parents of students!

"As your new superintendent, I want parents and guardians to know that we should do as much as we can together to make school fun and meaningful for your student.

The research is clear that possibly the best thing students can do to increase their confidence, reduce anxiety, and improve their engagement in ANY class is to be an active reader. Reading anything fun each day is the best way to start.

Reading is weightlifting for the brain. It is a powerful activity that only requires a library card and books that are fun to read and easy to see lying around in your home.

You don’t need to start with the classics. Keep it fun and give it time. If your child hasn’t been a reader until now, that’s okay. Like many things, changing habits takes time. Small actions, taken each day, have a profound effect over time."

Family representation is needed at Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) meetings for the upcoming school year from families with students of all age levels - including early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, and transition-aged students - with a full continuum of student disabilities. The focus of meetings is driven by parents' interests and resources that benefit all families of students served in special education.

👋 Join SEAC for its first meeting of the year this Thursday, Oct. 8 from 6-7 p.m. at the Educational Service Center in Anoka.

❓What it is: SEAC (pronounced “seek”) is comprised of parents/guardians of students in the district who receive Special Education services.

🩷 Why it matters: The intent of SEAC is to advise the school district on parent involvement, current issues, program development and established department priorities. The council serves as a resource and an advisory council for special education programs in the district.

It was so fun getting to see so many students, families and community heros at our first family event yesterday! Thank you to everyone who was able to come out to make this even such a hit!

We are sharing the informational video to all just in case the event didn't work in your schedule yesterday. We want to ensure all families are able to learn more about Ramsey's math and reading curriculum, the support we offer as a Title I building in the Anoka-Hennepin District, and a few brief ideas of how to stay connected and continue supporting your child's engagement at home!
