Today we had the incredible honor of presenting at the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) National Safety Conference in Anaheim, California.

Standing in front of more than 200 safety professionals, leaders, and practitioners from across the country was both humbling and inspiring. The opportunity to share our presentation on Active Threat Preparedness and Enhanced De-escalation Strategies is something we do not take for granted.

What stood out most was the level of engagement in the room. The thoughtful questions, meaningful discussions, and commitment to creating safer workplaces reinforced why this work matters.

We’re grateful to ASSP for providing a platform to share our message and to everyone who chose to spend part of their conference experience with us today.

Thank you for your participation, your insights, and your dedication to advancing safety within your organizations and communities.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE RELEASED TODAY 🎙️
What separates people who achieve extraordinary results from those who burn out before they get there?
In today's episode of Iron and Empathy, I sit down with endurance coach and Toro Performance founder Jason Lentzke to talk about sustainable excellence, mental toughness, discipline, and what it really takes to perform at a high level in both athletics and life.
Jason has spent nearly two decades coaching athletes, executives, and professionals who are balancing demanding careers, family responsibilities, and ambitious goals. His message is simple but powerful: success isn't built through heroic efforts. It's built through consistency, discipline, and showing up day after day.
In this conversation we discuss:
✅ Why consistency beats intensity
✅ The biggest mistakes athletes make when trying to improve
✅ How to balance elite performance with a busy career and family life
✅ Why recovery is often more important than training harder
✅ Lessons from Ironman training that directly apply to business and leadership
✅ How endurance sports can transform your identity, confidence, and mindset
As someone who worked with Toro Performance while training for my first Ironman, this conversation hit home. The lessons Jason shares extend far beyond endurance sports. They apply to entrepreneurship, leadership, personal growth, and anyone striving to become the best version of themselves.
One of my favorite takeaways:
"Greatness comes from ordinary work done over and over again."
If you're looking for motivation, practical performance strategies, or simply a reminder that success is built one day at a time, this episode is for you.

Honored to spend the day in Chicago presenting on De-escalation and Navigating Difficult Conversations and People for Captive Resources, LLC and their 200+ attendees.

In every workplace, difficult conversations are inevitable. Whether it’s addressing conflict, managing emotions under pressure, delivering tough feedback, or working through challenging interactions, our ability to communicate effectively can have a significant impact on team culture, safety, and organizational success.

During today’s session, we explored practical strategies for self-regulation, understanding human behavior, reducing conflict, and building stronger communication skills that help people navigate challenging situations with confidence and professionalism.

A sincere thank you to Nisha Sotiroff MPH, CSP, ARM for the opportunity to share these important concepts and for the outstanding engagement throughout the presentation. The thoughtful questions, discussions, and willingness to learn made for a fantastic experience.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to help organizations strengthen their people, improve workplace culture, and develop skills that make a difference both professionally and personally.

We were honored to spend the day with the incredible team at Ridgeview, delivering a Leadership Seminar focused on the skills that help teams thrive during both everyday challenges and high pressure situations.

Together, we explored the importance of psychological safety, self regulation, effective communication, and having difficult conversations with confidence, empathy, and respect.

Throughout the day, Ridgeview’s powerful message, “You Matter Here,” remained at the center of every discussion.

Strong leadership starts with creating an environment where people feel valued, heard, supported, and empowered to do their best work. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with an organization that is so deeply committed to its people and its culture.

Thank you, Ridgeview, for your engagement, openness, and dedication to building stronger teams and stronger leaders.

New episode of Iron and Empathy is coming soon — and this conversation hit deep.
I sat down with employment lawyer, speaker, and leadership coach Natalie Holder to talk about workplace culture, reinvention, leadership blind spots, emotional intelligence, and what happens when people quietly feel unseen at work.
We talked about: • Why great employees often feel invisible • The hidden signs of a broken workplace culture • How leaders unintentionally lose trust • Why some people outgrow the environments they’re in • The power of having your own “personal board of directors” • How courage and discomfort often lead to growth
One of the most powerful moments of the episode was this reminder:
“Sometimes you haven’t failed the environment… you’ve simply outgrown the box you’re in.”
This conversation is for leaders, entrepreneurs, first responders, HR professionals, and anyone who has ever questioned their value, direction, or purpose at work.

Before diving into problem-solving, try soothing communication. Learn techniques like 'I messages' and open-ended questions to build understanding and connection first.

We had a great time yesterday presenting a customized training session on active threat preparedness and de-escalation, along with tabletop exercises, for the Board Members of the NDAREC in Mandan, North Dakota, focused specifically on the unique needs and challenges facing electrical co-ops.

These conversations around leadership, communication, preparedness, and decision making are always meaningful, especially when you have such an engaged group participating in the discussion and exercises.

As an added bonus, we also got the opportunity to reconnect with some of our favorite people in the audience, which made the experience even more special.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to such a great day of learning and collaboration.
