Ralston Alumni Association Update

On Friday, October 24, at 6:03 p.m., the Executive Board of the Ralston Alumni Association held a meeting at the Ralston City Hall meeting room. Members present included President Amy Funkhouser, Vice President Sherry McConnell, Secretary Cecilia McGuire, and Treasurer Lou Brock, along with guest Marilyn Moon.

President Funkhouser called the meeting to order. The board discussed the organization’s current lack of by-laws and reviewed a letter addressing potential irregularities in the previous election process. The board considered possible steps to ensure fairness and transparency moving forward.

After thoughtful discussion, the board unanimously voted to transition from a traditional four-member board structure (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) to a four-member committee. This committee will divide responsibilities according to each member’s strengths.

During the meeting, Cecilia McGuire tendered her resignation due to personal reasons, which the committee respectfully accepted. Kyle Beavers was contacted by President Funkhouser and agreed to serve as the new committee member.

The committee further clarified that any former Ralston Public Schools student is eligible to serve, honoring the inclusive spirit established after the Ralston and Fairfax school consolidation. The committee also agreed that, in the case of a tie vote, the motion would not pass and would “die on the table.” All members present voted in favor.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:44 p.m.

We appreciate the continued support of our Ralston Alumni community as we move forward with integrity and shared purpose.

I would like to take a moment to address some misinformation, and some circulating rumors that I quit the Ralston Alumni Association. This is not 100% the truth.

For those thay care to know and may not have been able to hear that were in the room:
When it came time to elect officers for the 2025-2027 term, I was nominated to serve as President. One member of the congregation spoke out that an officer must be a Ralston graduate, (i am a Woodland graduate that would have been a Ralston graduate had the schools not consolidated, and have helped with the reunion for a number of years and have served as Vice President and Treasurer for the past several years). My nomination as then ignored, without consensus of the organization, another nomination taken and approved as president. When it was time to elect a treasurer, I was nominated and proceeded to a vote of the congregation. Before a vote was taken, I spoke up and withdrew the nomination, stating that if I am not qualified to serve as one officer, I am not qualified to serve as another.

I would like to thank the Ralston Alumni Association for allowing me to serve in the various capacities over the years. I have truly enjoyed my time, and having been able to help make the reunions a success. I wish nothing but the success f or the new officer team, and hope to see continued successful reunions for the Alumni Association.

Sincerely,
Kyle Beavers
