Wonderful opportunity for autistic teens in NC❤️

04/23/2026

People ask me all the time what I actually do. The short answer? I help families navigate the educational system so their kids get what they need – not just what’s convenient for the district. The longer answer I sit in IEP meetings. I reevaluation at midnight. I observed classrooms. I traveled to schools. I find the sensory inclusive spaces. I asked the questions no one else is asking. I support the parents. I trained teachers. I tutor the child .

because every child to serve someone in their corner, who knows the system – and isn’t afraid to push back when it matters. Even when one of the school team member says that you are not kind.

Because every single child deserves someone in their corner, who knows the system – and so do the parents and isn’t afraid to push back when it matters.

If that sounds like something, your family needs, Lets Talk❤️ educationadvocacy affirming

Love the awareness that podcasts like this are building! Being neurodivergent shouldn’t mean that they have to do all the work- I see so much rigidity that kids especially should not have to navigate. I hope that these conversations continue to happen - especially in our school systems and within our communities! I want to see all neurodivergent kids able to take advantage of college programming if that is their desire❤️‍🩹

In case you are free tonight, please check out our amazing local author Xion! You will be moved by the story he wrote! The story of a 2nd grade autistic boy who loses his IEP, learns why support matters, and writes a book about it with his crazy dog Maisy by his side is a story that hits close to home, both as a parent and a professional. Second grade is one of the hardest for neurodivergent learners! Come meet Xion- I promise you will not regret it!

Thursday at 6:00 pm! In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, readers of all ages are invited to meet local author Xion Ferrara. Xion will introduce his book Crazy Maisey and the Boy Who Understood.

Attendees will get a raffle ticket to win a copy of Xion's book!

The Duke men's and women's soccer teams put on a clinic for autistic kids, and the players and coaches were absolutely incredible with every single child. The spectrum of kids who came out made it even more special — and getting to chat, grab photos, and score autographs afterward was the cherry on top. So grateful we got to be there. 💙

Cannot say enough amazing things about this wonderful program!! I wish I had wrote down all the times I heard that we need to take away accommodations if there is any wish to attend college. This program supports kids without making them “appear different” in a way that gets their buy in for learning skills and developing intrinsic motivation. I wish I could replicate their success for all K-12 kiddos! 100% graduation rate- how many other programs can brag about that🤔❤️

What's better than winter break? Highlighting our students! We're proud of your accomplishments and happy to be a part of your journey
