I had the pleasure of facilitating a Self-Esteem Dance Fitness Workshop on Saturday, June 21, 2025 for Sparkle Mentoring Program Self-Esteem Camp. ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’•

The girls were engaged and energetic! I thoroughly enjoyed teaching this group of scholars. We bonded over shared experiences, cheered one another on and challenged one another to exude confidence and exhibit leadership. Hats off and standing ovation to these young ladies! A round of applause for the work Stacey McDowell Rodgers is doing! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Experiencing the sisterhood built among the young ladies was electrifying. Iโ€™d like to think the workshop strengthened their bonds. Their futures are bright! May the youth continue to sparkle! โœจ

I almost gave up.

Although God placed the idea on my heart to curate the Black Authors Book Fair and partner with Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, I have been struggling to plan for its future. On the surface I could see that once a year I've managed to bring a room full of strangers together to fellowship, network, and invest in one another but the long lasting impact wasn't clear to me.

Until I heard....

๐Ÿ’กThe pastor say, "It's happening" two weeks before
๐Ÿ’กA couple of customers tell me they saw the event on Facebook/Instagram
๐Ÿ’กA congregation member ask me how many vendors are my family/friends and I replied 3 (out of 24)
๐Ÿ’กUntil vendors started chanting "Quar-ter-ly! Quar-ter-ly! Quar-ter-ly!" as a response to one of them asking how often they think I should have the event
๐Ÿ’กUntil vendors started sharing their feedback, experience, and excitement to return next year

I was lovingly reminded that this event is bigger than me. As so eloquently stated by Teresa K. Page, MBA, the work I am doing is creating spaces for authors, entrepreneurs and consumers to synergize!

I am creating community.

Thank you Western Boulevard for partnering with me 3 years in a row! Special thank you to Frank, Kevin, Will, Joette, Jennifer, Verna, Art, Jean, and Jade for volunteering your time and Emily for the sign! Thank you to all the vendors for sharing your gifts and talents! Thank you to all the patrons that came to invest in the vendors, network, and fellowship! Thank you to everyone that shared the flyer/event page and helped spread the word!
