There’s something special about the first week of school, new friendships, new experiences, and new memories waiting to be made.

Our children celebrated the beginning of the new school year by literally leaving their mark on our Outdoor Learning Environment! Each colorful handprint represents a child who is growing, learning, exploring, and becoming part of the story of A Safe Place. 🌿

Years from now, these little hands will be much bigger, but their mark will remain—a beautiful reminder that every child who comes through our doors matters, belongs, and leaves something special behind.

Here’s to a joyful new school year filled with messy hands, curious minds, big discoveries, and even bigger dreams! 💜💚

🌿 Growing Future Leaders Through Learning Environments 🌿

We were excited to welcome Meredith College freshmen to A Safe Place Child Enrichment Center to explore and assess both our Outdoor Learning Environments (OLE) and our indoor classroom spaces.

Their visit provided an opportunity to observe how thoughtfully designed environments can support children’s curiosity, independence, creativity, movement, social-emotional development, and connection to nature.

We believe that the spaces where children learn matter. From our gardens and outdoor exploration areas to the intentional learning opportunities inside our classrooms, every environment can help inspire growth.

It was especially meaningful to welcome college students who are developing into future educators, professionals, advocates, and leaders. We are proud to open our doors, share our work, and help grow future leaders while they learn about growing future leaders. 🌱💚

There is something so beautiful about seeing the world through a child’s eyes. 🌸🔍💗

A flower becomes more than a flower—it becomes a discovery, a question, a tiny world waiting to be explored. Moments like this remind us why nature belongs in childhood. When children are given time to slow down, look closely, touch, wonder, and investigate, learning happens naturally.

🌸💦 Nature-Based Learning at Cross Link! 💦🌸

Our Cross Link toddlers are bringing a little bit of the garden into their water play this week! 💌🌼

By adding fresh flowers to the water table, our little learners can explore colors, textures, scents, floating and sinking, scooping, pouring, and simple flower arranging—all through hands-on play. 🌺🌿

Simple experiences like this help children connect with nature while building their senses, curiosity, fine-motor skills, and creativity.

✨ Magic Sand Exploration! ✨

Today, our students created their own Magic Sand by mixing flour, oil, and food coloring until it had the texture of wet sand. The children enjoyed using their hands to mix, squeeze, mold, and shape the sand into mini sandcastles and creative designs.

This hands-on activity supported:

🧪 Science: Observing how ingredients change when combined
✋ Sensory Development: Exploring texture, color, and movement
📏 Math: Measuring ingredients and comparing shapes and sizes
🏰 Creativity: Designing sandcastles and unique structures
🤝 Social Skills: Sharing materials, taking turns, and working together
💪 Fine-Motor Development: Strengthening hand muscles through molding and shaping

Learning is even more exciting when children can touch, create, experiment, and have fun! 🏖️🌈

🍕✨ Tasty Tuesday was a delicious success! ✨🍕
Our young chefs had an exciting hands-on lesson in how to make pizza with a very special guest from Papa John’s! The children rolled and shaped their dough, added sauce, sprinkled on cheese, chose their toppings, and created their very own personal pizzas. 👩🏽‍🍳👨🏾‍🍳
This fun cooking experience was filled with learning! The children practiced following directions, measuring, counting, strengthening fine-motor skills, making choices, working together, and exploring how ingredients change when they are baked. And, of course, the best part was enjoying the pizzas they made themselves! 😋🍕
A huge thank-you to our special guest for sharing your time, knowledge, and love of pizza-making with our children. Experiences like this help learning come alive!
