The Raleigh Reading and Writing Tutor

The Raleigh Reading and Writing Tutor One-on-one tutoring to help students read and write more effectively--and score higher on the SAT and ACT.

I'm Suzanne Wood, aka The Raleigh Reading and Writing Tutor. Students may struggle to read effectively even if they can "decode" texts correctly. I help students in grades 5-plus boost their comprehension skills so that they can not only respond successfully to test questions but also enjoy reading more. In addition, I'm passionate about demystifying the writing process for students in middle scho

ol through college. I show them how to use a simple process to discover what they know, get their thoughts on paper, and revise and edit with objectivity. I also provide tutoring for the verbal sections of the SAT and ACT. Students who work with me always see their scores increase! Sessions are generally one hour and can be arranged on a weekly, ongoing basis or one-off appointments (1.5-hour minimum for these). In-person (in the Raleigh area) and virtual tutoring are available. Contact me at 919-830-4952 or via email at [email protected] to discuss your child's needs.

A lot has been said about the new SAT--it's online, it's shorter, calculators can be used for all math questions--but there's something else to consider. The new test will benefit kids who are diagnosed with ADHD or have other attentional issues. Not only is the entire test one hour shorter than the old one, but the reading section features VERY short passages paired with only one question each! And the subject matter is different from one question to the next, keeping students interested and engaged.

It's not too soon to register your child for the first SAT of the New Year (March 4). The test is all-new and features the following changes: it's computer-based, one hour shorter, and allows calculators on all math questions. Those old SAT study books are now obsolete! But you can get study materials for the new SAT for free at Khan Academy, the College Board's testing partner: https://www.khanacademy.org/digital-sat
