Hindi-Urdu at NC State University

NCSU World Languages, Literature and Culture students were mesmerized by experiencing Dr. Surendra Kaushik and Geeta Kaushik Ji’s Aatithya- hospitality at their home 🙏🙏

World Literature students at the Department of World Languages and Cultures, are Exploring South Asian cultures through Virtual Reality Modules! Fatima wrote, “The virtual reality videos also did a great job in showing different social norms and traditions. One of the VR videos showed a theatrical play going on and how the people were seating. I noticed that even the younger children were present and they had their own seating space on the floor in the front of the theater. To me this was so interesting because it shows how different collectivistic cultures are from the individual culture we have here in the US. Children had their own place to enjoy and mingle, as well as move around. This to me showed comprehension of child expectations and needs as well as providing a space where children can learn and experience the same things their parents do, but in a way that is catered to them. Being a psychology major that loves to work with children and families, this experience really helped me see how different cultures internally interact from a new and personal point of view. I loved the VR class and wish there were more videos available that we could watch during class.”

Zuhal Muti, “My experience with 3D Printing was really interesting! I learned how to pick images that I want to transport into svg form and make stickers, keychains, and other gadgets. I had some issues with using the editing software and had to ask for assistance but I was able to figure it out.
I made a keychain with an image of the planet Saturn and my name written in Urdu. I picked Saturn because my name, Zuhal, means Saturn in Farsi. Additionally, astrology is a significant aspect of Indian culture. They look to astrological signs, horoscopes, and zodiacs when making important life decisions, such as marriage and career goals. They believe that the alignment of the stars can influence people’s lives. I find astrology very interesting and Saturn is my favorite planet because it has rings.”
