When transitioning out of the military, attending college or trade school may sometimes seem like a slowdown to momentum, but oftentimes it is just the move needed to propel yourself even further than you imagined before!

Switching industries or going back to school may seem like setbacks, but according to Simon Sinek, those “backward” moves can actually set you up for greater success in the long-run.

On Sinek’s podcast, “A Bit of Optimism”, Sinek compares career growth to a slingshot: sometimes you need to pull it back before you can launch forward with greater momentum. As Sinek puts it, “there is no finish line.”

See why Sinek says your attitude towards success may be leaving you unfulfilled — and what you can do to fix it at the link in bio.

Summer is for fun... and MVS's 2nd annual "Staff ReTreat Yourself" was full of that!

This year, our crew of staff and summer VA work study students participated in a 2-day professional development and team building workshop.

On Day 1, the team learned about neuroscience, resiliency, and student veteran well-being thanks to our facilitator Dr. Natalie Boone, Associate Professor of Kinesiology & Health Sciences at Mars Hill University. With moments for reflection and hilarious team building activities sprinkled throughout, this training session kept us on our toes literally and mentally. 🧠

Keeping that momentum going, Day 2 started with a mindfulness walk on the grounds of the JC Raulston Arboretum before diving into a fun terrarium and fairy garden building workshop led by Tory from Urban Pothos Plant Shop. 🪴

From there, our team transitioned over to Kings Dining & Entertainment for lunch and an afternoon of bowling. 🎳

Another great MVS team building experience is in the books, and our crew is on a well-deserved break from the office to celebrate the upcoming holiday. 🥳

Wishing everyone a blast this July 4th weekend! 💥

This past week was National Student Employee Appreciation Week - a perfect time to celebrate and thank our AMAZING work study team!

To THE best group of student workers at State, we appreciate you for - providing essential information for those using their or their parent's VA education benefits, keeping the "vibe" of the MVS center flowing, lending helping hands at our events big or small, and creating a welcoming environment for all visiting the space!

Thank you (in no particular order) to Nick, Alex, Austyn, Nate, Andrew, Ashley, Justin, and Mia 🫡

Reflecting on a "Thankful" November as we wrap up Veterans Day and our Fall semester Events.

Military and Veteran Services 2024 11/13/2024

At NC State's Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services, we are committed to empowering our student veterans. This semester, we’re excited to support five deserving student veterans in attending the Student Veterans of America National Conference in January 2025. This opportunity will offer them invaluable leadership development and networking experiences, equipping them to make a meaningful impact in their careers and communities. Every contribution makes a difference, and we invite our network to join us in supporting this important cause. Together, let's uplift our student veterans and help them thrive!
