NC State Stormwater Extension

NC State Stormwater Extension NC State University's Bio and Ag Engineering Department and NC Cooperative Extension team up to "learn and teach" sustainable stormwater management.

Urban stormwater pollution is consistently one of the top causes of water quality degradation in the United States. North Carolina Cooperative Extension and North Carolina State University have full time agents, researchers, and faculty devoted solely to solving this growing problem with sustainable and sound best management practices that can be utilized at almost any scale--homeowner to City pl

anning. Cooperative Extension grew from the Morrill Act of1862, which established land grant Universities in each state tasked to translate research findings and University expertise into outreach to farmers, families, and the community at-large. As the land grant schools in North Carolina, NC State and NC A&T have stormwater extension professionals dedicated to providing educational outreach through workshops and trainings, design guidance, and hands-on demonstration sites featuring the latest techniques in water quality improvements through best management practices. These best management practices include rain gardens, bioretention, wetlands, cisterns and rain barrels, sustainable plantings, and much more, all intended to conserve and clean the planet's most precious resource. Join the group and keep up to date on upcoming workshops geared toward homeowners, engineers, private business owners, regulators, municipality representatives, and researchers, so we can build upon what is already one of the most progressive stormwater states in the country. Keep up to date with the many graduate students and faculty housed in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at NC State, who provide some of the engineering expertise on new BMP performance data, installation tips, and design guidelines which are constantly being refined through research.
