I didn’t make this journey by myself.......

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and there’s something I don’t talk about enough.

My family.

When I didn’t understand my dyslexia, my family helped me understand that learning differently didn’t mean I wasn’t smart.

When things were hard, they kept encouraging me.

When I started believing in myself, they believed even bigger.

Their support gave me room to discover who I am, find my strengths, and become confident in the way my brain works.

Every dyslexic child deserves people around them who remind them that different doesn’t mean less.

That’s one reason the Made By Dyslexia film What Is Dyslexia? is so important.

DYSLEXIA IS MORE THAN READING BACKWARDS! 🧠💙

Many people think dyslexia simply means mixing up letters. But there’s much more to understand.

A child with dyslexia may:

📖 Take longer to read or complete written assignments.

✏️ Struggle with spelling words they’ve practiced many times.

🧠 Have difficulty remembering verbal instructions.

💭 Need extra time to process certain information.

📝 Find organizing thoughts on paper challenging.

🔤 Struggle to connect letters with their sounds.

And here’s something every parent needs to hear.

Not every child with dyslexia experiences the same challenges.

At Team Genius Squad, we understand this personally. Our founder, Ava N. Simmons, was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia at age 8.

Her learning differences didn’t stop her from becoming an author, entrepreneur, and STEM innovator.

They helped us understand why children need opportunities to learn in different ways.

That’s why we believe in hands-on learning that helps children discover their strengths while building confidence.

💙 A child struggling with reading isn’t a child lacking intelligence.

Millions of kids still don’t know why.......

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month.

About 1 in 5 people has dyslexia, yet many kids grow up without understanding why they learn and think differently.

I know what that feels like.

Before I was diagnosed with dyslexia, I thought I was just weird and disabled.

Understanding my dyslexia changed that.

I stopped seeing different as something I needed to fix and started discovering what my brain could do.

That’s why I’m asking you to do something this Dyslexia Awareness Month.

Research from the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity says dyslexia affects about 20% of the population, or 1 in 5 people.

I was diagnosed at 8 years old. Before I understood my dyslexia, I thought I was just weird and disabled.

This could change how a child thinks.......

Imagine being a kid and thinking you’re not smart because you learn differently.

That was me.

Five years ago when I was 8, I didn’t understand my dyslexia. I thought being different meant something was wrong with me.

Now I understand my brain better, and I see myself completely differently.

Kids deserve to understand their brains before they start believing they aren’t capable.
