Headed for home!

Yesterday afternoon, our members explored campus visiting staple landmarks such as the cougar statue, johnson clock tower, the bookie, and many more. Then as we moved into session 4, Rainier was awarded the Superior Chapter award for our dedication to strengthening agriculture, building communities, and growing leaders. Robert Shaw was also able to perform his talent on stage! To round out the night we got some Taco Bell.

On the trip home today we got to see quite the variety of critters from a fox outside our dorm room to a full strut turkey to plethora of deer and coyotes! Even got to see a crop duster in action!

Overall great convention experience and excited for our banquet l

State convention day 3!

The FFA BBQ team places 7th in the state out of 60+ teams! Our delegate was able to vote on several topics during business. After session 3, some students attended a social event which included line dancing, wall climbing, pool and foosball tables, co****le, dodgeball, volleyball, basketball, pickleball etc. our delegate was attending an icecream social with the state officer candidates to get to know them better.

Today our delegate will be voting on the incoming state officer candidates. Other members will be partaking in a campus scavenger hunt to allow them to explore more of WSU, and tonight Robert Shaw will be performing his talent live on stage!

To see Robert Perform: the WAFFA youtube channel will be live streaming session 4 starting at 6pm. Robert is performing near the end of session so expect some wait time before he goes on. We will post an update when we are close to his performance. Follow this link to the youtube channel: https://youtube.com/?si=XehskiOST7I-0kAm

After a long day of hard work we rounded the evening off visiting Ferdinands and eating ice cream made at WSUs creamery. Then we toured the WSU bear Center before getting a personal tour of the WSU Meats Science Lab! We got to learn about the processing of livestock from the industry standard for ethical dispatching, hanging, breaking down and processing, packing, and storing. We also got to learn about carcass grading and USDA certification requirements. After this we attended the first session of the 96th convention.

Today we had an early morning where our delegate went on to discuss current topics for our state organization, the bbq team got set up and started cooking ribs against 60+ other chapters, and the remainder of students are attending educational workshops and visiting the career expo!

Tomorrow night, FFA member Robert Shaw will be performing his talent live on stage in front of thousands of members and guest at Beasley Colosseum. We will post information for you to be able to see him live tomorrow night!

Stay tuned for more updates as we go!

Rainier FFA is off to state convention! On the way we had the opportunity to tour the 250’ tall Mayfield Dam and powerhouse which regulates the Cowlitz river down to a fraction of an inch and generates power for over 63,000 homes. After this we were able to tour Monson Fruit Company where we got to learn about the growing, packing, and shipping of apples, cherries, and apricots. Monson is also the distinguished one and only packer of all Ocean Spray cranberries, which we got to see in person as well!

After a restful night staying on WSU campus, our First Year Member team is off to competitions, two delegates are diligently working during committee meetings, our talent contestant will be is doing his pre performance evaluation, and others are attending meaningful workshops held on campus! Recently, 7 students split between 2 separate teams represented Rainier FFA at the Tahoma FFA welding contest! Congratulations to the Team of Fred B, Robert S, and Brayden S for taking 4th place and the team of Zach H, Cooper L, Nathaniel M, and Tristin S for taking 6th out of 11 teams. This welding contest included SMAW with 6010 and 7018 electrodes, GMAW, GTAW, and plasma cutting! It consisted of building a project to match a set of welding plans provided including numerous vertical welds. Overall a great experience and the students had a blast!
