PARENTS: WHAT IF YOUR CHILD “CAN’T”? START WITH HONOR. 💜

Sometimes a parent looks at their child and thinks:

“They can’t control themselves.”
“They can’t be respectful.”
“They can’t handle responsibility.”
“I’ve tried everything.”

But Honor does not begin with what your child can already do.

Honor begins with the standard you consistently teach, model, and reinforce.

Your child may not be able to do it perfectly yet—but that does not mean they cannot learn it.

What does HONOR look like at home?

1. Teach them how to speak with honor.
No yelling across the house. No disrespectful responses. No name-calling.

Instead, practice:
“Please.”
“Thank you.”
“Yes, Mom/Dad.”
“Can I try that again?”

If they answer disrespectfully, don’t just punish the behavior. Teach the replacement.

“Try that again with honor.”

Simple. Calm. Consistent.

2. Give them something to honor.
Their room.
Their belongings.
Their family.
Their commitments.

A child can begin by putting their shoes away, caring for their uniform, cleaning up after themselves, or completing one responsibility before moving on to entertainment.

Small acts build big character.

3. Model what you expect.
Children learn honor by watching us.

How do we speak when frustrated?
How do we treat people who serve us?
Do we apologize when we are wrong?
Do we keep our word?

You cannot demand a culture of honor while modeling dishonor.

4. Stop doing everything for them.
Sometimes loving our children means allowing them to struggle long enough to discover:

“I CAN.”

If we constantly rescue, remind, carry, fix, and excuse, we may unintentionally communicate:

“You are not capable.”

Instead, give clear expectations, appropriate support, and room to succeed.

5. Celebrate honorable choices—not just achievements.

“I saw you tell the truth even though you knew there would be a consequence. That was honor.”

“I noticed you helped your sister without being asked. That was honor.”

“You were frustrated, but you corrected your attitude. That was honor.”

What we recognize, we reinforce.

And when they fail?

They will.

Honor is not expecting perfection.

Honor says:

Own it. Correct it. Learn from it. Try again.

Parents, sometimes the biggest shift happens when we stop saying:

“My child can’t.”

…and begin saying:

“My child is learning.”

Your child may need more repetition.
More structure.
More patience.
More accountability.

But never underestimate what can happen when a child is surrounded by adults who lovingly refuse to lower the standard or give up on their potential.

🥋 HEROES Principle #1: HONOR

This week’s home challenge:
Choose ONE act of honor your entire family will practice every day for seven days.

Maybe it’s speaking respectfully.
Making the bed.
Greeting one another properly.
Keeping your word.
Or saying “thank you” without being reminded.

Start small. Stay consistent.

Honor becomes a habit before it becomes a character trait.

🔥 SOMETHING NEW IS COMING.🔥

Not just another shirt.

Not just another design.

This is about the standards we live by, teach by and expect from the next generation.

6 WORDS.
6 STANDARDS.
1 CULTURE.

Leadership isn't just taught—it's lived.

Every child deserves mentors who believe in them before they believe in themselves.

Watching these young leaders grow in confidence, character, and courage is one of our greatest privileges.

Together, we're building more than martial artists—we're building the next generation of leaders.
