Radford University's Learning Assistance and Resource Center - LARC

Radford University's Learning Assistance and Resource Center - LARC Let the Warren P. Self Learning Assistance and Resource Center (LARC) help you open the doors to academic achievement!

Call (540)831-7704, or drop by Walker Hall 125 to set up an appointment today! The LARC strives to help all Radford University students achieve academic success in all disciplines. In individual or group tutoring sessions, students acquire support from College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified trained tutors. Writing tutors aid students with writing assignments for any discipline.

Math and science tutors help students understand formulas, grasp abstract concepts, and reinforce problem solving skills. Additionally, students can improve and maximize their learning skills, reading comprehension, and test taking strategies through one-on-one consultations. With a learner-centered approach, the LARC staff and tutors seek to meet each Radford University student’s academic needs. Radford University's LARC is equipped to work with international students. The LARC has academic coaches specifically trained to help students learn the English language. In addition, the Disability Resource Office ( DRO) provides the LARC staff with background and strategies for tutoring learning disabled students. The interim director, Tracey Mattson, is a former special education teacher, specializing in learning disabilities. For students with physical disabilities, the LARC has special entrances. However, the LARC is prepared to meet students in other, more convenient, places on campus. Tutors have also worked with interpreters and readers as well. The LARC now features an academic coach that is solely designated to student veterans, cadets, and dependents. This coach can help students with time management, being sensitive to the demands of the ROTC program, the National Guard or Reserves, Active Duty transition, raising a family, and experiencing deployment. The coach will also offer study, note-taking and test taking skills.
