In many rural hospitals, nurses may find themselves assisting in procedures outside their usual specialties, and care teams must rely on strong communication and teamwork to take care of patients effectively. 🤝

Recently, nursing students from Radford University joined VCOM-Virginia - Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine surgery students for an activity designed to help them communicate effectively during laparoscopic surgeries.

It is well known that the U.S. is facing a physician shortage, with one study from the Association of Medical Colleges painting a bleak picture: There will be a shortage of 86,000 physicians by 2036.

Nurse educator burnout is a growing concern that affects the future of the nursing workforce. 👩‍🏫 Approximately 85% of nursing faculty experience moderate to high levels of burnout, driven by heavy teaching loads, research expectations, committee responsibilities, faculty shortages and the challenge of balancing work and personal life.

In a recent American Nurse Journal article, Laurie Dellosso, assistant professor of nursing at Radford University, examines this pressing issue and highlights evidence-based strategies to help reduce burnout. She emphasizes that supporting emotional, mental and spiritual well-being is essential to sustaining nursing faculty and strengthening nursing education.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) program at Radford University is for registered nurses who already have a bachelor's or master's degree in nursing and want to take the next step in their careers. 🎓

Students learn advanced nursing skills, leadership, and how to improve healthcare for patients and communities. Graduates are prepared for careers in hospitals, clinics, home health, hospice, long-term care, education, healthcare leadership, and public health. ❤️‍🩹

The program ends with a hands-on residency that is customized to each student's career goals and interests. Courses are offered online or in a hybrid format, giving students the flexibility to balance school with work and personal commitments while staying connected with faculty and classmates. 💉🩺
