At the May HCS Board Meeting, Carlena Sheeran, ISD recognized the following ‘literacy leaders’ for earning the OG Master Teacher award to the following teachers! 🙌🏽 We cannot “shout out” these teachers enough for taking the opportunity, focusing on their skills, meeting their goals and shining in their schools! 💚💙 These teachers demonstrated commitment and success! 😊 Thank you to April Jackson, Creekside Elementary for helping pass out the awards to the teachers! 🥰

We want to take a moment and thank these two fabulous teacher leaders as they have worked/are working through the IMSE: Institute for Multi-Sensory Education courses to become trainers for our district. 🙌🏽 The work is rigorous and comprehensive but they are dedicated above and beyond to all students being successful in reading! 💙💚 Thank you, April Jackson from Creekside Elementary and Lauren Martin, New Highland Elementary for your commitment to literacy success! 📚

We stayed in Radcliff where there are so many wonderful teachers in HCS! 🙌🏽 Greg Sutton and Carlena Sheeran, ISD visited Woodland Elementary School to present Orton Gillingham Master Teacher awards to Cesshecka Benson, first and second grade teacher in the areas of Word/Sentence Dictation, New Concept, syllabication and Red Words. 🏆 The New Concept is when teachers introduce a new skill to the students in a hands-on, multi-sensory process. During Dictation students listen to words and sentences presented orally and apply their knowledge of learned skills to write them correctly. ✍🏾 The syllabication helps students know how to break words apart in segments.🗣️ Red Words are high-frequency and irregular words. The goal is to automatically read these words when students encounter them in passages. 📖

STORY WALK tonight at Freeman Lake!!!

STORY WALK is ON for tonight starting at 4:30 PM!! 😊The first 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ families receive a 3️⃣ book set of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom books. 📕📕📕 There will be a photo opportunity at the end of the story for you to take photos of your child. 📸 Join us for the FUN!

Recognizing great teaching is our very favorite part of the job!🙌🏽 Greg Sutton and Carlena Sheeran, ISD presented an Orton Gillingham Master Teacher award to Marcie Kazarovich, 3rd grade teacher at Radcliff Elementary School in the areas of Morphology Three Part Drill and New Concept.🏆 Morphology is the study of word structure and meaning. A morpheme is the smallest unit of a word that contains meaning. This instruction is expanding and enhancing the vocabulary of the students!

Next we drove south to Elizabethtown to recognize another one of our fabulous HCS teachers!! 🙌🏽 Greg Sutton and Carlena Sheeran, ISD visited Heartland Elementary School as they presented an Orton Gillingham Master Teacher award to Kalyn Mitchell, kindergarten teacher in the area of New Concept.🏆 The New Concept lesson provides direct instruction in a letter/sound relationship, spelling rule, or syllable type. This concept is taught using a structured and multi-sensory approach before students apply it to reading and writing. 🔡
