Join us for Pre-schooler fun today from 10-10:45 a.m. at 734 Lake Ave in Racine. "Stories and Songs, Cuentos y Canciones" teaches foundational literacy skills to children through music, stories and family fun. A mother herself, bilingual instructor Julia mixes Spanish and English in this engaging program. This program is designed for children birth - 5 years old, but older children are welcome to attend.

You can support RLC without spending a dime! RLC has been chosen for Target's Circle Giving program. Whenever you shop at Target, you earn one vote. Voting is Oct. 1- Dec 31. At the end, Target tallies the votes and will award RLC a grant. The more votes you give us, the more money we receive!

"When I was growing up, my step-dad was functionally illiterate. He had dyslexia and came from a family of English Language Learners. But he was able to own his own business because he had support. I saw all the benefits of literacy programs in my own home. I feel like this job was made for me, because I get to teach. I can be creative and work with learners of all backgrounds. I can take programs and make them accessible and equitable. There's never a day I get up and don't want to come to work."
Karen is director of RLC's Family Literacy program, which works to uplift families through education and relationship building. She uses her degrees in Elementary Education and Family Studies to work with students and families at several Racine Unified Schools including Knapp Elementary, Julian Thomas Elementary School, Renaissance Lutheran- Villa, LUMIN Schools, Mitchell School, Renaissance Lutheran- Taylor, 21st Century Preparatory School as well as Burlington Area School District and Waterford Graded School District. She also teaches Zumba in her spare time.
