We had an amazing time with the students at Camp Odyssey learning about two important topics—where our food comes from and the importance of staying hydrated!
Our School Nutrition Director, Chynna Silvernale and Nutrition Bookkeeper, Maurie Tarpley kicked things off by explaining the journey food takes before it reaches our students’ trays. We talked about how our meals are made possible through partnerships with local farmers, produce grown by students right here in our district, trusted food distributors, and USDA Foods.
Next, we explored the importance of hydration and learned that many fruits naturally contain sugars and electrolytes that help keep our bodies fueled and refreshed. To wrap up the lesson, students sampled several flavors of our homemade “Natural Gatorade” and voted for their favorite.
🏆 Based on the smiles and empty cups, Pineapple Mint was the clear winner!
Thank you, Camp Odyssey, for allowing us to share the importance of healthy eating, hydration, and supporting the many people who help bring nutritious meals to our schools!
