❤️💙 Prepared to Protect Our Trojans! 💙❤️

At Brooks County Schools, the safety and well-being of our students will ALWAYS be a top priority! 🛡️

Today, we welcomed Jessica Arnett, Opioid Prevention Analyst with the Georgia Department of Public Health, who provided valuable training on opioid awareness, the proper administration of Naloxone (commonly known by the brand name Narcan), and the importance of having open, honest conversations with our children about opioid safety.

Did you know? All BCS bus drivers, administrators, School Resource Officers (SROs), and school nurses carry Narcan to be prepared for potential opioid-related emergencies at our schools and events?

🙏 We hope it is NEVER needed, but being prepared could save a life!

A HUGE thank you to Jessica Arnett for sharing her knowledge and to our dedicated BCS staff for taking the time to learn another way to keep our students safe!

❤️💙 Because protecting our Trojans goes beyond the classroom!

Eighth grade budding entrepreneurs in Ms. Rebecca Crowder's class at Brooks County Middle School presented their plans for a new product to potential investors recently. The students were required to use one of Georgia's top ten agricultural commodities as the base for their product, and their inventions were both creative and original. The students pitched their ideas in groups of four together five and told about contents, use, and potential for high profits. The inventions included "Georgia Feathers," using chicken feathers for hats and fans (poultry is the number one commodity in Georgia); stretchable "Edible Corn Slime," made with corn syrup; "Safe Bricks," made of cotton, softer than plastic "Lego" pieces; and "Beef Proteinizer," a protein-rich seasoning made from beef. The "Shark Tank" panel consisted of staff members Maura Lewis, Brian Law, Sam Harden, Halley Jones, and Janie Jones. The potential investors made offers and counter offers to provide the groups with seed money for start-up and production of their idea. The students learned about entrepreneurship, including production costs, FDA approval, percentage of profits, and making a sales pitch.
